Marianne Williamson's quote about fearing our own power gets unpacked here. The speakers explain why success scares people: relationships shift, responsibility grows. Their advice: choose success deliberately, then decide which people stay in your life.
The quote that you sent me was, our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. And that's Marianne Williamson. Why do you think the fear of the light might be even greater than fear of the darkness?
People are afraid that if I succeed, my life is going to be different, my friends are going to treat me different, and your life might shift in unexpected ways, or you might feel like, gosh, if I'm super successful with this, God, that's more responsibility than I want to have. So I'm just not even going to try. But I think you got to remember, you choose. So choose what you want to have. And if it comes with people that can't handle your success, then you can choose whether you want to keep them in your life or not. But don't just bare your light because of all of the possibilities of the scary things that could happen if you succeed.
