Don't Get PLAYED By Social Media (The "Influencer" Myth)

Dean Graziosi worked in an auto body shop while building real estate deals, then launched an infomercial business. He argues that overnight success is a myth: real wealth comes from sustained effort, modeling successful people, and small incremental increases in what you do, not from chasing influencer fantasies on social media.

I know so many great young men and young women who want more and they think they're putting all the effort in and you're just not. With all the opportunities that exist today, why haven't you reached your next level of income, life and wealth? In most cases, we've been lied to. We've been told that if you find the right opportunity and you work hard, you can be successful. And that's simply not true. Millionaires, billionaires and successful people have realized you need the foundation for wealth, the habits. And that's exactly what you'll be learning on the Millionaire Success Habits podcast. All success starts here. What's up? What's up? Welcome to the Millionaire Success Habits podcast. Today, I want to get real and raw with you. I want you to know what it takes to reach that next level of life. I think we've been so fragmented, been so delusioned by Instagram, by Facebook, by social media. We see what see seems to be so many people living life just happy every day. Wealthy. The new cars, the new boats, the vacations, the perfect pictures, the skin, flawless. The gorgeous wife or the handsome husband, the six packs, the money, the perfect children. We live in this fragmented world. When I say fragmented, we're fragmented from reality. And the other thing too is it seems like people especially, there's so many so called influencers. The whole thing is now, are you an influencer? Right. So there seems to be so many influencers that got rich overnight or they started something and wealth became a part of them. And now life is so easy. So I want to get real and raw today. I don't know if there is a magical way to get rich fast. Maybe there is. And maybe you have the type of brain to invent something that just is so in demand, it goes so viral, you never have to worry about your future success money ever again. But I don't know many people like that. And I've been blessed to meet hundreds and hundreds of millionaires, a handful of billionaires, presidents of the United States, people running for president, world leaders, I mean the top sports people on the world. And none of them, not one of them, fell into wealth, fell into success, fell into being the top basketball player in the world, or fell into being the top football player in the world, or fell into being a billionaire and changing the world, or thought leaders are becoming presidents. They all had to work. They ought to put the time in now. They followed people who were doing and playing the game at the highest level possible. They weren't listening to their broke friends on how to make money. They weren't listening to their friends who got cut and were bitter from the team on how to get better at the game. They were modeling successful people. They were modeling successful thoughts. So I want to share a little bit about my story. I was in upstate New York this past week going down memory lane. And there was a time, and I want you to know this. No matter how you know me, if you know me as the real estate guy, I've done, you know, thousands of real estate deals. If you know me from writing a book, from doing masterminds, from being a success coach, being on stage, listening to my podcast, watching me on Instagram, yes, I truly have generated hundreds of millions of dollars in my life with my brands and my companies. Do I have hundreds of millions of dollars in the bank? No. But am I worth a great amount? Do I own real estate all over the country? Yes. And I'm blessed for all that. But no matter how you know me now, I want to get real and raw and tell you who I was in my 20s. In my 20s, I worked in a collision shop named Dean Collision Center. I had started with my dad when I was in 10th grade, and then my dad kind of went one way, I went another. And I ended up getting my own collision center. So every single day, I worked on wrecked cars, I painted cars, I had dirt under my nails. I went home with headaches because I paint. And our shop didn't have the best ventilation system. I was. There was days I threw up because I painted so much. But I worked in my collision center every single day. Did I want more? Did I know there was more? Yes. And did I work at that job like I liked it even though deep down I freaking hated it? Yes. But let me just tell you where I was. I was working on my day to day to pay the bills. That was my collision shop. But at night, in my 20s, I owned 21 apartments. Now did it just own them overnight? No. I had a hustle. I had no money down deals. I did sweat equity. I worked my ass off. I bartered with friends to get deals done, but I would buy the most rundown places on the planet. And I learned to be a carpenter and a plumber. And I'm not suggesting you do that. I just want to tell you where I'm at. Picture me in my 20s. I came from nothing. I had dyslexia. I truly did, you know, have no money to start. I had no family members with money. I didn't go to college, so I was working to get out of that, I didn't want to create, you know, continue the legacy of working hard and not making anything. I wanted to change that. So I was working on cars during the day. I'd go home at night and I would eat and change clothes a little bit. And I'd go off and be a carpenter and a plumber and anything I had to do to get my apartments done. Then when I was done with my apartments, I, I started buying property and subdividing. I started building houses. There was day after day after day where I'd work on cars all day. I'd go home and eat and then I'd go lay tile till 1 o' clock in the morning. And I'd make deals with all my friends. They'd come over at night, sometimes they bring a six pack over, whatever it took, and we'd get work done. And I'd work every night until I got 20, 25 apartments under my belt. Till I built two, three, four houses, till I started doing more subdivisions. My day job, my collision center, was paying the bills while I was working on my dream. And then that evolution evolved. Then I started going to Manhattan. I was about an hour and a half away from the city. I was going to the city two, three days a week, working on the next bigger goal. Once the real estate started, I wanted to know how to teach that I didn't know how to get in the education business. I started writing books and courses at night or early in the morning. I remember setting my alarm at 4:40 in the morning to start writing and teaching people how I made money. Then all of a sudden, as that evolved, I ended up going flying to Arizona, that's where I live now, to start my information business, start my infomercial business to share my knowledge, share what I learned with the world through infomercials. There was a time where I was working on cars, selling cars, had 20 apartments, was building and flipping houses, and I was flying to Arizona every other week working on my information business. My infomercial, it wasn't handed to me. And if there's a smarter way to do it, I hope you find it. But what I want to share is I know so many great young men and young women who want more and they think they're putting all the effort in and you're just not. You got to ramp it up 20, 25%, maybe 50%. The effort you're putting in isn't enough. Now if you're running on a treadmill, if you're doing busy work and you're busy as hell and you don't have a moment to yourself, then you have to evaluate what should be on your not to do list, not your to do list. Plus, we can remind you when we go live and give you some great bonuses when the time is right. But let's get back to this. I know so many young men and women that want more. They think they're putting the hustle in, but really you're just admiring from the far. You're really playing on the sidelines. You might be a good person on the sidelines. You might be cheering and you might be admiring, but are you really rolling up your sleeves and getting dirty? Are you failing miserably? Are you getting told that you're nuts if your people aren't telling you you're nuts if you're not failing miserably? If you're not working and putting the effort in, most likely it's not just going to come land on your lap. You're not going to find a magic money machine online and get rich overnight by placing a few things on Amazon or Shopify. It takes effort. I teach courses on how to make money with real estate, but I tell everybody right in the beginning it's not a magic money machine. You got to put the time and effort in. But here's the path and plan. I teach people how to market and sell. It's not going to have been easy. Got to put the time effort in. And I can say this because I put the time, effort and energy in. Because I put the time in. There was like I said, I'd work at a collision shop during the day, I'd work on my houses at night. Then I evolved to go into the city and writing courses in the morning and flying back and forth to Arizona. I I was always had a day job that paid the bills while I worked on my next biggest, best thing. I put the time and effort in. I put more effort than I see most young people around me today. And I'm not knocking you by any means. I just want to get this grit inside of you, this desire because it's worth let me just back up or go forward. It's worth every bit of it. I wouldn't change any of the hard work. Yeah, I missed a lot of the fun. I didn't do some of the things other people did, but I also had More fun than anyone I know, because when I started making money, I traveled around the world. I got to train for my friends and family members to go on vacations and have fun with me. I retired both my parents, I'm so blessed they're both still alive. I pay for each and every one, either both of them to live. I send them checks every month. I buy them their cars. I got the benefit of the other side because I put the hustle in. I went through the grind. And I have to tell you, it's a pain in the ass when I, you know, I'm obsessive on Instagram. I'm pushing so hard for people to get in my books, to get into my underground millionaire mastermind. I push hard for people and I'll get young kids going, oh, you douchebag. Or you look like a scumbag. Or you're probably a, you know, you're slick and you're a scam, and what did you really do in your life? I did more in a week of my life than most people posting that from the sidelines have done in their whole life. But that's why I love to talk to people like you who are on podcasts like this, because, you know, you have to put the time in. You're here gaining knowledge, gaining capabilities, gaining motivation to go take action. You're not just hoping it happens. When I see that, it frustrates me. But I don't give up. Because here's the thing. I have a mission. I have a desire to change the global conversation, to change and disrupt the higher education system and teach people a new way to learn, a cool way to learn through self education. So every morning when I get up and I want to do something else, I. I know I have to push to get my book in people's hands, to get this education, to get these podcasts, people to listen, to see there's a better life, a better direction. So I don't care what I have to do. And you think that some young kid or somebody who's, you know, failed, or a critic from the sidelines who's never in, like. Like Theodore Roosevelt's critic quote, you want to throw stones and tomatoes from the sidelines? Why don't you get in the arena and play with me? Why don't you play hard like I do? Why don't you get blood like I have? And again, this isn't about me. Oh, look how great I am. It's about you. I want you to have more. I don't do these podcasts. I don't do these videos for my own health. I do it because I want you to see. There's more, but it's worth going after it. It's worth outworking the people around you. It's worth having more hustle than the people around you. Just point your ship in the right direction and know that if you can ramp up what you do just 25%. 25%. Gain the right capabilities and go for it. Go deep. Go laser focused. Stop dabbling. There's no limits to where your life can go. That's my message for today.
