Success Is Built On Failure... This is Why!

Dean Graziosi talks about failure and success through his own life: his divorce, raising his kids, and learning to do the right thing instead of the easy thing. He argues that how you handle challenges, not money or status, defines what success actually means.

It's how we handle situations that makes all the difference.
I've been coming to this beach for six years, all right?
Jumping on the plane, heading to San Diego. And we flew all the way here just for one reason. It was to spend some time with my kids.
I've been coming to this beach for six years, to Marco island, to speak at my buddy Tony Robbins, Wealth Mastery. And literally, for six years, I go and collect shells.
The best shells ever.
Gulf of Mexico, Marco Island, Florida. I don't know. My kids love it. They're old enough now that they're probably like, dad, we don't need shells anymore.
But how do you get these perfect shells anyway?
Hey, we had a great time yesterday at Wealth Mastery. We're here on the east coast, amazing beach. It's gonna be a long day today. We're gonna go eat, jump on the plane, and go to San Diego. Maybe we'll do a little something on the west coast later today on that beach. But something that was hitting my heart today, something actually Ethan said. Who's holding the camera? Is. Personal development is different for everybody. You know, somebody, some of you might want, someone like my buddy Andy Frisello, who's like, in your face. Just do it. Don't be afraid. Go for it. Gary Vee, don't be a baby. Like, effort and energy. And some people, like Rachel Hollis is so heart driven. And my buddy Brendan Bouchard is very heart driven. Maybe I'm somewhere in the middle or wherever. My whole point is, this is personal development is personal. And you need to find the voice, the message, the process, the habits that allow you to grow. Listen, I don't want you to stay where you are. I will push you if you need to be pushed. I'll hopefully motivate and inspire you. I'll give you capabilities, and so will other great people. But find that voice. Find those habits that allow you to say, wow, there is more. For me, I. I do have another level. There is more potential. I have more gas in a tank, and I want to go for it. Whether that's setting goals and looking towards a bigger future, whether that's running away from a painful situation going on in your life, whatever it is, find the motivation, then find the voice, then find the habits, and then go for it. I mean, at the end of the day, whatever personal growth or personal development or success means to you, it's worth it. Because I just truly believe at the end of our lives, and I say this a lot, but I think about it all the time. Personally, we're going to look in the mirror or be on our deathbed and say, did we go after it? Did we squeeze the juice out of life? Did I find my true purpose? Did I give all of me to the world? We only got one shot. So find your voice. Find what personal development means to you. Find a leader, someone that follows, someone that speaks into your heart or more than one person. Get courses, get in workshops, get in masterminds. Get self education. Do whatever it takes to find that next level. All right, I'm going to get some more shelves for my kids, even though they probably don't want them. And then we're gonna jump on the plane and we'll chat more soon.
Oh.
All right. Let's eat and get out of here. I just gotta keep hustling and get my new book done. It's finding the time. You can't just write a book in like four seconds and be like, oh, let me just knock this out, you know? And especially we had such an impact with millionaire success habits. And people know my voice, right? We're over 600,000 copies of people reading. You can't hire someone or just pencil it in. You know what I mean? It's like people know my voice. And I see that with authors. I've read an author's book, and I could tell the next one, they are either hired a ghostwriter or just knocked it out quick. And it's like, man, that's just. It's disappointing. It's like watching Imagine a trilogy or a weekly story, right? That you're falling in love with a show, and then all of a sudden you can tell when there's a new director or a new writer. I watch that with. I watched that with. I don't watch much tv, but I watched the Walking Dead with my kids, and they loved it.
I loved it.
We got obsessed with it. But I could tell when there was different writers about season three or something. It just was different. I couldn't. I'm not a cinematographer. I'm not a writer of scripts like that, but I could tell it was just different, had a different feel. And even my kids were like, why is it different?
And all of a sudden, it got.
Good again after, and I. You know, so it's the same thing with a book. It's like my heart and soul's got to go into it or it's just not going to be the same, you know? Yeah, yeah. How long would you say it took you to find your voice? Like, in a speaking sense and an authorship sense?
Years.
You Know why? I think. I think what happens, at least for me, what happened was I found what I thought was my voice. And I think a lot of it was things that I took in from the outside world. So some of it was mine, and some of it was influences from all different types of people and teachers.
And I think it took me a.
While to really settle in, like, who am I and what do I stand for? But once I found my voice, it was not only easier, people felt my voice, and then I attracted the people that needed to hear me. Right. Some people might not resonate with how I share how I teach, but they, you know, unfortunately, millions of people do. So let's see if we got. Can't let my shells go. It's a tradition. Let's go eat.
All right. Jumping on the plane, heading to San Diego. The San Diego trip's not business. My daughter's going to summer camp, and she's away with her mom, and there's no way I'm going two weeks without seeing my daughter.
So we're gonna go to San Diego.
I'm gonna take her to dinner tonight, dinner tomorrow, so I don't mess up for vacation with her mom. And then Sunday, Father's Day, I get to take her to her camp that.
She'S going to spend the day. So let's head to San D. All right, we're in San Diego.
We. We did all the business on the east coast. Now this is about family. All right? On the west coast, here in Del Mar, California. And I wanted to share the whole trip. We were in Florida, had an amazing time at Wealth Mastery. It was awesome. Flew here. And this being here was personal. It was to come see my children. And I think. I think one of the dis. Delusions of so many people, including myself, maybe it was just me before I had a little, you know, next level of success is that once you have success, all the problems melt away. And I don't think that you believe that totally, but it's how we handle situations that makes all the difference. Listen, I'm here on a personal note. I got divorced a few years ago. I'm here with my fiance. She's holding the camera right now. And we flew all the way here just for one reason. It was to spend some time with my kids. And here's the thing. I flew all the way out here because my ex is out here on her week of vacation, and I'm not even supposed to be here. But my daughter's going away to summer camp tomorrow for a whole seven Days and I won't see her. And I couldn't handle going seven days while she was on vacation with her mom and then seven days while she was at summer camp and not seeing her. So I have a great relationship with my ex, so it was easy, but I didn't want to take too much time. So yesterday we spent two hours with my daughter and my son and it was amazing. And then today we just spent two hours. Then we've been just working and doing miscellaneous stuff in between these two hour chunks. And then tomorrow I get to take her to camp. Why do I share that? Well, I have to tell you, I miss my daughter. I miss not being with my daughter every day and my son every day. But it was the right thing to do. Not the easy thing, the right thing to do for my ex, for my kids, for me, for our future. And here's the thing, like anything in life, if you focus on what's wrong, if I focus on the time I don't have with them, it really hurts. If I focused on, oh my God, right now, I'm not seeing my daughter, we're not going to dinner with her, we're not laughing with her or my son, not enjoying ourselves.
That hurts.
But guess what? I found a way to focus on the benefits. We just had two and a half, three hours. Again, Lisa's holding the camera right now. My fiance, she's smiling. We had the most amazing three hours. And I found a way to just absorb it and suck it in and be grateful for those three hours, not sad about the rest of time. Now again, am I sad when I don't see her up? Of course. It's why I'm here. My whole point is this. We're all in different levels of life. We all have different circumstances, we all have our issues, but a lot of it is what we focus on. Today, I'm feeling grateful for the three hours I had. I'm feeling grateful that my ex is allowing my fiance and I to take her to camp tomorrow. And I just found out that we get to have lunch with them at camp. Especially silly as that sounds, that's also what success means to me. So I guess the, the little lesson I'd love to share, being transparent is, yeah, being away from my kids hurts, but I focus on what's right. And the, the easy thing would have been due to stay in the wrong relationship for the wrong reasons. My kids would have had a terrible example of what a marriage is supposed to be. Now my ex is happier. I'm in the best Relationship, my life, my kids get to see love. My ex has the opportunity for love in her life. And no, it wasn't easy, but it was the right thing. And we never. None of us could have gotten to the other side, another level of happiness, if we didn't go through that. Secondly, I try to focus on the good. The two hours, it was enough to fill my heart. And lastly, I really know what's important to me. I know what success is. And I'm not trying to make this all about me. I'm hoping this resonates. Even if one little piece of this resonates for me in my life. Being with my fiance means the world to me. Being with my children means the world to me. Making an impact on lives like yours means the world to me.
The rest of the stuff, not so much.
So when I know what's important, I know it was worth me getting on a plane, flying private because the only way I could get here in time, and luckily, I'm blessed to be able to afford it. But I flew here private. I missed another event where I could have got paid. But I know what's important to me. It was worth it. So what's important to you? Yeah. We went from one coast to another, and I wanted to end this message with real transparency and maybe give you the ability to just think deeper in your heart than ever before. What hard things do you have to go through now so they could be easier later? What do you really want out of your life? And how can you focus on what's really important and be grateful, even if it's shorter moments? That's my message. I'll see you later, Sam.
