Thanks for Visiting - Session 4 - 7-3-2025

John leads a session on using AI to speed up software development feedback loops. The group reviews Colleen's Host Finance Dashboard, a property-level financial health check tool, which currently costs $3,000 but is planned to raise to $5-6k this fall. They discuss an enterprise pricing strategy that could charge around $500,000 to a handful of high-value customers.

Sure. That we get you the full recording. Okay, that's going. And, you know, thank you obviously, for the, for the overview of some of the things you want to go over today. You know, I was thinking about it in the shower, just thinking about, you know, why it's difficult for, for other people to write software for other people, right? And why it's so expensive and takes so long. Again, I paid for millions and millions of dollars of software to be made for me. I've been on the side where I'm delivering software for other people. And the thing that's always difficult is the developer will sit there and be like, oh, I just built this awesome thing, it's so cool. And then they'll take it to the person that's paying for it and they'll say, I don't want this feature. Get rid of it. And so you spend all this time perfecting something that's just not exactly what you want. And, and so there's just that feedback loop, right? And that feedback loop historically is weeks or months at a time potentially, right? So it takes forever. And you also don't want to micromanage your developer, right? You don't want to be like, hey, do this, do that, do that. And feedback every hour would be ridiculous, let alone every action they make. And that's part of why I think, and I'm kind of formulating a LinkedIn post about this that I'm going to do probably tomorrow or something. But I think that AI development by people that are actually the ones paying for the development, right, Is going to be more efficient long term and more effective long term. It's going to create better solutions because you don't have this crazy long feedback loop that usually you're like, yeah, whatever, it's too hard. Like, don't even worry about it, right? You can just, you can micromanage your AI and the AI doesn't care. And you don't have to feel embarrassed. It's just an AI, right? You just like, no, fix this. No fix this. No get it right. No do this. No do this. You could keep iterating and iterating and iterating until you have it just perfect, right? So the reason I bring that up this morning is what I'd like to do is kind of take over and do a bunch of coding and developing with you guys, right? But I want you to make sure that you're, you know, treat me as the AI. I don't have feelings. Hey, I don't like that, John. Let's do this. Right. Hey, change that. Hey, can you move that button? Be as micromanaging as you want while we're doing this process, and you'll see how I work through a problem when you ask me to do it. But you can't offend me. First of all, I'm not actually the one creating it. I'm just asking it. So the AI is going to be the one to blame. Anyway, I just wanted to start off with that kind of thought process that I've been going through in my head and I think is applicable this morning. So who has the replit that we're going to be working on this morning? Kind of the base project. Are we wanting to start on a base project or are we wanting to just do something completely new? That.
That was actually going to be my question. I should have sent it over to you last night is do we start? So I would say Colleen's replit that she started during our initial day together. That was my first reaction. I was like, oh, should we share Colleen's replit? And I was thinking about that last night. But then my next question is, or do we start fresh? I don't know if there's. If it matters.
Yeah. In terms of time, Colleen already has a bunch of things probably that are working, and so we could jump in and try to work through that. Sure. What I'd like to do is maybe just kind of open it up and I'll look at it. And if I'm like, oh, you know what, There's a few things that are just going to be easier to restart with that. Right. So sometimes it is better to do that. I've done it many, many times. I think I shared with you the Outpost X thing. I started. It wasn't great. And I was like, okay, I know exactly what I need now. And I redid it and it took me like 45 minutes and I had it perfect. Right. Okay. So it's really fast once you know what you're doing. And that's another reason why developers, like, I'm a pretty smart guy. I know what's going on in the world. Right. I'm not trying to brag, but I'm just saying I'm a smart guy and you can tell me and even give me a long email of exactly what you want, but I still have about a 5% understanding of what you want compared to. Right, sure. You guys are just smarter than me because about your topic, because it's yours. It's your baby. You eat, drink, sleep. This. Right. So anyway, Colleen, go ahead. If you let me share my screen just for a second here, inside of repl.it there's a little button up here that says invite. And just. If you could just invite me. I don't know if you can look.
Up Flow State John. Is that.
Is that my name? I don't even know. But you can also do john@flowstateleadership.com I believe. I think that's the name of my account. Let's look at my account. Really quick profile. Flow State John. Yeah, that Flow State John should pull me up. But go ahead and just add me. Just invite me to the project and that will allow me to actually just work on your project. Now, whenever you do this, just so you guys know, whenever you invite someone to the project, you're a account will be the one, you know, charged for it. My account won't be charged for working on your project. I'm just coming in as a contributor, basically.
So.
John, while that's getting situated, I love that you are. You have no feelings because it's the AI, that whole thing. That's awesome. But we feel really lucky too that you not only have this deep understanding of AI, but, but you also have a storied history of being a successful business person. So any. We want to invite you to also tell us if there's anything that you recognize that could be better or if you could think bigger or you tried that before and that actually wouldn't. Anything that you can give us too on our road to 10xing over the next year or two with this tool being a part of that growth. We welcome anything you have to share.
Yeah, no, that makes sense. All right, I'm going to pull this up too, just so we have it readily available. Let's see.
Can I just open this a new. Like, just open it up. I do that. I'm just going to copy this, actually.
You know, the reality is I think you guys are on the right track to do some really cool stuff here. You know, you, you already have a great foundation. You have lots of customers. You've been doing it for a while. You've got good social content. I've followed both. You know, Colleen, Colleen, do you have social? I didn't see you like, easily on social. No, not.
I don't know.
I looked at Annette and Sarah and, you know, went, went through those things and, and found some good stuff. Found some, some great, you know, content you guys post. You're doing a good job there. The only, only recommendation I would have is just. And do more of it. Do More volume on social. And I know it's hard because you're already doing tons of podcasts and YouTube videos and all this stuff, but you have lots of great content out there. So you've got this really, really incredible foundation that is going to take care of you for a really long time. And I assume you're going to keep creating that. So that's fantastic. Your goal to just kind of move up the food chain, I think is really good. What I don't know is what does that do to your, you know, by moving up the food chain from what is your current cost? You're going up like 12 or something, right? But you're. What do you.
We're currently at 3,000.
3,000 and going up to like 12, right?
Yeah, we're going to step it up to either five or six this fall and then learn from that and then step it up again next year.
Yeah, that's good. That's good. And that addresses some of what I was thinking, right? It's just how much of a hit will you take? Like how much smaller will your pool get? Because it will get smaller the higher you go up, the smaller it will get. But you know, I was sitting next to an entrepreneur that's way, way more successful than me. He was a co founder of a company called Omniture, which was acquired for $1.2 billion or something by Adobe just here in Utah. Probably about 15. Gosh, no, it's probably like 20 years ago now. But anyway, it was acquired and so I'm sitting right next to one of the, one of the two founders. I knew both of them, they're really good guys. Name is John Pastana. And I was speaking, we were at an entrepreneurship thing and I was speaking right before him. And so we're just sitting next to each other and somebody, somebody before me gets up and they do just a quick, you know, business pitch, like a three minute business pitch. And it was a business pitch competition. And you know, he's talking about all this amazing stuff. We're gonna do this, we're gonna charge $49 a month for this and $79 a month for this. And Johnny, just reach or leans over to me, he says, just change your target market to big enterprise and charge 500,000 for it. Go get yourself five customers a year. You know, don't, don't try to sell this thing 50,000 times. Sell it a few times and just charge more and change your audience. Right? And so I think that definitely applies here. There are people, there's so many Airbnb owners and plenty of, you know, big people that are going to be out there wanting to. Wanting to improve it. But. But your instinct is also correct that. That maybe, you know, you need to differentiate between the $3,000 offer and the $12,000 offer. In that same vein, you maybe don't have to. Right? And so I don't want you to. You know, we're going to build some cool stuff right now, but I don't want you to think in your mind, like, the stuff that we're teaching is, that we've been teaching is only worth 3,000.
Right?
It really is worth way, way more. Just because it's easy to you doesn't make it easy to them. Right. If the. The plumber doesn't get paid to bang, he gets paid for what?
No where to bang.
Exactly. Knowing where to bang. Where do you hit? Oh, there's the problem. I found it. But he found it in a minute. And then you pay him $400. Right. And. And why? Well, because he knew how to do it, and it would have taken you days or you just. Your leak would have continued. You would have had this problem. Right? And so you guys know where to bang with that hammer. So really believe in yourselves in that way. And. And just say, hey, you know what? We're going to charge more because we know we're worth more, straight up. Okay? Now, at the same time, we've got, you know, some cool stuff to work on. We're going to build some new tools, and you're going to be able to, in your messaging, say, hey, we've, you know, we've got the same content and even more content, and we've got all these new tools, and so it will very naturally come to your messaging. It'll be very easy for you to talk about, and. And that kind of stuff. Okay, so, all right, I clicked. I clicked a little, you know, fix the issue now. Now everything's working, so that's fantastic.
So I want to click on this really quick. I just want to look at something.
See.
What's this project called? Wait. Host Finance Dashboard. Oh, yeah. This is awesome.
Okay, we're good. All right. Question. Did you set up a. Well, hold on.
Why are we. Why did we crash? Okay, I want the dashboard now.
I want the database. So you do have a database. Did you add any data to it? I mean, it looks like there's very little stuff here. Colleen, is that.
Is that accurate?
Yeah, that was just like, some example of, like, if somebody asked. Yeah, no, it was.
Got it. So you haven't really used this. So tell me really quickly, Colleen, since you're the one that put together all the prompts and did all this, tell me what this is supposed to do. Now, obviously I can read the readme, but I just want to hear it.
From you as well.
This is supposed to be where you can log in and get a quick health check of your financial state of the union with this property or all your properties and then have either prompts that are saying, if we see this, then this is what I would do, or daily prompts just to. As like kind of business health. You know, you got nothing to do today, like update your listing type thing. So just kind of prompts to keep them moving forward and in a business focused mindset that this is their property, like that this is what they're supposed to be spending their energy on.
Perfect.
Perfect.
Yeah. So that gives me immediately kind of just a structure in my mind to think about. So the first thing that I'm going to work on here is I want to make sure that properties work right because everything's around your properties, right? You want data and information, all this stuff around your properties. So we got to make sure that the database is set up. You know, we've got properties here, right? So I'm going to look at it. I'm going to say I've got id, user id, name. So we've got a couple, a couple properties are in here, right? Type location, Airbnb rating. Now, obviously these are fake pieces of data, but I need to figure out where and how because I don't see, I don't see, you know, where in the platform I can actually add a property. I tried clicking on the menu and it didn't work. And so I said, hey, this doesn't work. This doesn't do anything. So it's going to work on the, on the menu really quick. So we'll let it do that. Look at the console here.
Yeah, it's just trying to figure out.
And, and redesign some of that. Okay, while we're waiting for this to, to kind of come up a little bit here, let's jump over into this and just read it again with, you know, now we're, now we're diving in. So we've got the AI coach. I saw that you implemented that. That's down there in the, in the. Sorry, the. What do you call it? Lower right hand corner of your screen. We'll work on the, on the prompt today to. Well, we'll work on a few things. One of the things that was talked about was you want people to be able to. With the coach widget, you want. You want them to be able to just. It's a new conversation every time. But you want those conversations stored so that you can just kind of understand what people are asking about. And I think that's really smart. And then setting up Sarah Clean and Annette based on topic will be helpful. So here's what I'm going to have you do, because you don't want to just sit here and watch me work the whole time. And sometimes we have to wait for a few minutes. What I want each of you to do is I want you to create your own avatar, your own kind of style of how you respond. Annette is tough, or maybe Colleen's the tough one, or I don't know who's tough. Right. But. But I want you to. I want you to say, okay, hey, very empathetic, has this experience. Whatever. I want you to just get into ChatGPT and just start a conversation and say, hey, I'm trying. Or I need you to help me create kind of an. Like a Persona that matches me for a prompt for AI. So I'll type that into the chat here. Right. I need you to interview me one question at a time. We use that same thing. I think this is a perfect application of that skill about my business Persona, I'm wanting to create an AI that acts and responds, responds like me and understand.
