Okay, so Tony Robbins getting in my face, well, it wasn't a bad thing. It was actually one of the things that helped me through one of the toughest times of my life. He's a dear friend, we're partners, we do great things together. But there was a time about three years ago I was going through a divorce and my ex and I knew the relationship was over, but I was losing it, like feeling like I was coming unglued because I was so worried about my children. You see, I was a. I'm a product of divorce. My parents were married a bunch of times each. Great people, but married a lot. I moved a lot. 20 times by the time I was 19. And I think I must have had some deep seated insecurities about that and things that bugged me as a child that I tucked down. So when the thought of separating from my children and not waking them up every day from school and not being There to do homework with them or tucking them in at night. It didn't just make me sad. It was the first time in my life I had crippling anxiety, like losing my mind. 48, 49 years old, I'm like, did I lose it? Did I snap? Did the switch go off? Is it over? I felt sad and depressed. But worse than that, it was the anxiousness of not knowing what to do and not be able to control these feelings. And all I could think about was, is my relationship going to change with my children? Are they going to be unhappy? Are they going to struggle? Will they feel alone? Will they feel sad? Will all the work I put in change with them? I mean, I was just thinking, and then I thought about. I just kept compounding and compounding and compounding. So let me stop for a second. That's where I was in. Now I've been in personal growth for over 22 years. I work on this every day of my life. I know I shouldn't focus on what could go wrong. I know I should focus on what could go right. But guess what? In my life, I did that so much in business that that's how I overcame all the obstacles. That's how I went broke a couple times. That's how I overcame when people told me I was crazy or enter an industry where I wasn't prepared or wasn't an expert in the industry, but I still went after it. It's how I crushed it when everybody said I could never. All of those things. I knew how to do that in my business life, I would find a compelling future. I wouldn't focus on what could go wrong. I would stack what could go right. But guess what? Out of left field, old insecurities, old things came back. And in my personal life, when it came to my children and not being with them, I was doing what a lot of people do in each area of their life. Started focusing on what could go wrong. And what happens when you focus on what could go wrong. And I'm going to ask you, in your life, maybe it's a job that you're in that, you know, you just don't want to look back in 30 years and still be there, or the business that's not making you money, or the partnership that's not working out, or the company that's making you lots of money, but you have no freedom or you're not making the impact on the world you want. There's probably something, I'm guessing, in your life that you're either avoiding or you when you think about it, all it does is bring these ill feelings, stomach ache of what could go wrong. And to me, that's like, you might have all. You might be in great shape, great relationship, but that one area of business isn't working. That's your weak spot. That's your Achilles heel. Mine was. My Achilles heel was my children. So all of a sudden, I'm going through this terrible time in my life, and I don't even know how to get out of it. And what I didn't realize was all the energy and effort I had in that area of my life was thinking about all that could go wrong. And it paralyzed me. It crippled me. So I fly to Florida to hang out with my buddy Tony Robbins and his wife Sage for a day. They're my two most favorite people in my life. I mean, incredible. They're big hearts come down, let's talk. And I have to tell you, I'm sharing and they're listening, and I'm like, feeling bad. I'm saying, and this could go wrong, and that could go wrong, and this and this. And you see why I have anxiety. And Tony said, you've been here for an hour, brother, and all you talked about was what could go wrong. You haven't said once what could go right. You haven't painted a picture. There's no way you'd be as successful as you are. I've watched your companies grow. You don't do this in your business. That's why you're successful. Your reason you're all fucked up right now, excuse my language, is because all you could think about is what's wrong. If you know the relationship's over, if it's done, then. Then you have to find a way to create a compelling future and point your ship in direction of what could go. Right now you're saying, oh, duh, everybody knows that. But not when you're in it. Right now you're in a job maybe you don't love, but you're like, I won't be able to pay the mortgage, won't be able to pay the bills. I'll go broke. I'll lose everything. People will call me crazy if I start my own business. Same shit, same story. You might be in a bad relationship that you either need to fix or get out of, but I'll be alone. I'll be unhappy. I. I can't stack the negative. You'll stay where you are. The amount of money you make, same thing. The partnership that should be split, same thing. So Tony gets five Inches from my face. And he tells me about an exercise he wants me to do right there on the spot. And that's when he got close to me and said, do it. Do it now. So I'm gonna challenge you to do it. What he made me do that was the start of the transition for me. Out of worry and going down the road of what could go wrong is draw on a piece of paper, draw a line down the middle, and on the left side of the paper, write down the things that from this point in my life were absolutely unacceptable. And on the right side, right side, write things that are an absolute must in my life. And for me, it was my children. And I wrote what wasn't absolutely acceptable. It wasn't acceptable for them to feel insecure. It wasn't acceptable for them to be put in the middle. It wasn't acceptable for them to feel the pain like I did. And I started writing down what was an absolute must. It was an absolute must that I became friends with my ex. We were doing okay, but we wanted to take it to another level so we could co parent and not have animosity. It was an absolute must that my kids were secure. It was an absolute must that I created a new type of family. It was an absolute must that I found love in my life. And I showed it an example of love. My ex and I were good friends, but we never showed affection in front of them. So that was a must. Then all of a sudden, I started getting through this path, and I started writing, what's a must in a relationship? What's unacceptable. And I said, if I'm going to be in a new relationship someday, it's unacceptable. These 10 things that I compromised in my life. And then I went down the right side. What's acceptable? I wrote down what I wanted to look like. Her health, how she hustled or how she worked, and how she focused and read the same books. And all of a sudden, I had this diagram of my life of what was unacceptable anymore and what was acceptable. And it switched in my brain, and I started focusing on that piece of paper. And I don't know how to tell you everything. Just, like, the stress started falling off my. Like, falling off me. So today I'm gonna challenge you to do that same exercise. What in your life needs a change? What in your area of your life needs work? What area of your life are you sticking with? Just because you're scared or you're comfortable or you're afraid to rock the boat, what could you do right now? If you write down a piece of paper, whether it's your relationship, your income, the job you're in, the partnership you're in, the company you want to start and write, from this point forward, this is no longer acceptable in my life. And what is a must in my life? Can you change it overnight? No. But once you do it, you know where your beacon of light is. You know where to point your shield. You know what to start saying no to. You know who to push out of your life. You know who you want to attract. Listen, that was a couple years ago. Right now, I'm here in the best space of my entire life. My business is flourishing. I've been blessed to have a great business for over 20 years, but it's on a whole nother level. I'm in the greatest love of my life. I got engaged a couple months ago. I'm so happy. To my soulmate. I am truly friends with my ex. My children are thriving, like, in an amazing way. They get to see love. They get to have a bonus mom, not a step mom. And not troubles and fights. Like, my kids are happier than I've ever seen them since they were born. Now, is everything always perfect? No. But guess what happened the day I declared I was not accepting this in my life anymore. And the day I wrote down how my life was going to be, I. I created a compelling future, and I turned my ship in that direction, and I found it. I've done that for the last 30 years of being an entrepreneur. Now I figured out how to do it in my personal life. Now I'm going to ask you to do the same thing. Make that list. If it's your business, if it's your income, if it's your job, it's time to face and say what is unacceptable and what's a must. When we're 90 years old, this will be the favorite exercise you've ever did or the thing you'll regret the most for not doing it sooner. That's my message for today.
