Unbreakable Discipline| Build Extreme Mental Strength

A motivational YouTube talk by Dean Graziosi about cultivating discipline to achieve higher personal and professional growth. Graziosi uses personal anecdotes—learning to ski with his son and a recent torn ACL and rehabilitation—to show how clear outcomes, rituals, and daily habits (physical therapy, focused routines) turn discipline into sustainable action and avoid easier, short-term choices (e.g., surgery or quitting).

Nobody likes the word discipline, but it's so freaking important, isn't it? There's just this fine little line between living into that person we're meant to be and settling for the great person we could be. And I think we just have to find that line and find the disciplines that help us go to the next level. But how do you go upstream a little bit and find a way to make discipline more fun? I think about the discipline of working out, right? Of exercising. I don't know about you guys. I don't like working out. I do every day, but I don't like it. But it's a discipline of mine because I'll always focus, I always focus on the outcome right now, I mean, me, me, me. But when I don't want to work out in the morning, there's a route. There's literally a ritual that I go through in my head is like, I want to look good for my wife. I want to be. I have a one year old. I want to freaking be able to run with her when she's 20. And I'll be 75, right? So I want to be able to run my one year old. I like feeling better. I like looking younger. I like having the stamina to go all day. I will literally focus on all of those things. And then the discipline becomes easy. And as you go to another level, there's going to be another level of discipline. And what we can feel in that growth is sometimes a burden. Like, dude, I really want all this. God, this is a lot. Or your disciplines can be where you start eliminating the things that you don't really love anymore. You start finding a way to fall in love with that next level growth. So the reason I like the word discipline is because the discipline you have now is going to have to expand the rituals you have, the habits you have. We're going to grow from going from somebody who's selling some product to being in the product selling business, to being a product mogul, right? To go to a level that all of us want to go to another level. True. You wouldn't be here if you didn't want that. And I was thinking about how it's changed over the years. And again, please, when I share a story, it's not to say how great I am. I'd failed as much, if not more than most of you here. And I still have stuff I work on every day. But I was thinking, I haven't told anybody, but I've been skiing for two years. I've never skied in My life, but my. Anybody have. Teenagers have gone through the teenage years with children, right? You know, it is so easy to lose them in a teenage. At the teenage time. Great kids, but just independent, doing their own thing. And somebody gave me great advice. Find one thing with each kid that you got your jam. So when they're in teenage years or they're going, you got this one thing in common. My boy wanted to ski, so, hell, yes, I'm gonna learn to ski. Fly to Utah a couple times, and we got a house in Flagstaff. And last year, we skied six times together. Do you know how amazing it is to drive two hours, no phone conversation, get on a ski lift when it's freezing next to your boy, 20 minutes going up conversation. He's like, oh, dad, race me down the bottom. I mean, heaven, right? It's. We found our jam, right? Wants to go every weekend. He wants to go tomorrow. So we flew to Utah twice already this year, and we went up to Flagstaff last week. Now I'm okay, but I've been skiing two years. I still have to. It gets too steep. Who skis? I'm still straight up. Pizza on the super steep ones. And he's like, dad, French fry, no pizza. So we get the Flagstaff this four and a half weeks ago. And we get there and just being dumb. I'd like to say young and dumb, but I'm old and dumb. He's like, let's not mess around. I needed to go to a couple greens, the lowest one, and warm up. He's like, let's go to the top. I'm like, you want to go? Let's freaking go, dude. Because we're about the same right now. We started at the same time. We're about the same skiers. He's starting to get a little better than me, which is annoying. Matthew McConaughey said this, and I played my boy, and he's been taking tennis for years. And I played him tennis about five weeks ago, and it was the first time he ever beat me. And McConaughey said this to me. He said, I realized he's got a 15, 16 year old son. He's like, I'm not the best athlete in the house anymore. He beat me like, five weeks ago. I'm like, son of a bitch. Anyway, so of course he says, let's go to the top. I'm not gonna freaking say no. I'm like, hell, yeah. If you want to do it, it was dumb. So we come out and the first part is like, straight down I freaking get twisted up. My freaking ski goes this way. My boot didn't unlock, and I knew I twisted my knee so bad, I tore my ACL in half five weeks ago. It's broke. It's tore right now. And as soon as. You know what. Has anybody ever done that or something close to that? Like, you know when it's like, not a normal. Like, it just is weird. Like, you want to vomit because, you know, something broke and I couldn't move. And I'm laying there and I'm like. So the ski instructor comes down because my helmet flew down the mountain, my ski poles down. Like, so embarrassed. My son's like, you come? And I'm like, no, I don't think so. So I'm telling you a story for a reason. So now, as a man with ego, they're like, can you get down? I'm like, yeah, I'll get down the mountain. I'm not going in that freaking sled. I'm just not doing it. And I go to stand up, and I can't even put pressure on it. And I literally. I limped. I took the pole and I limped like, 20 yards down. And I'm like, I gotta get in that stupid thing. So I had to get skied down the mountain, and my son's behind me, and, like, I literally flipped my son off. I'm like, I like. Cause he was making. He was laughing at me, right? So I get to the bottom, and long story short, I'm hoping it's not that. I go get an mri, it's torn. I go get one opinion, and the guy does all the Phoenix Suns, and everybody's like, yeah, let's get you in two weeks. We take it out of your thigh. You guys, I don't know, but they take it, they wrap it, and then they do the surgery for a new acl. He said, let's schedule you. I'm like, okay. And when you tear your acl, my leg was stuck like this. Like, I couldn't straighten it, right? So long story short, I get a second opinion. And he's like, ah. But this guy, he's like, if I treat the cut, the tear, it's torn in half. You need surgery. But if I treat you, he's like, you're in shape. You already got more movement than most. And he's like, there's about a 20% chance you. There's. They heal if you. And I didn't know. Again, I'm sorry. Getting in detail, but there's a reason it all comes Back to discipline. I didn't know what atrophy was, that you're. When that happens, your body shuts down the muscle around it. And he looked, he goes, can you tighten this muscle right here? And I couldn't. It was gone and it was already shrinking. And he's like, try with all. And I could not, I could do this one. I couldn't command it. And he said, here's the thing, you got about a 20% chance. You don't need surgery, but you got to get that muscle strong and you got to get everything around it strong. I'm like, so tell me what I got to do. He's like, you got to do physical therapy every day. And he gave me these exercises to strengthen the back and then exercise the front. It's about a 30 minute routine. Those of you in this space, you understand what I'm talking about. And he said, if in 90 days your leg is straight and you can make that muscle work, he goes, I think if I'm treating the person, I don't think you need the surgery. I know. So then I went to work and I found top physical therapist, one of the top one in the city. And I asked him if he could come to my house every morning at 5am Three days a week, and then I would do it on my own. Now I'm sharing this because I don't know at any other time in my life that I would have the discipline to do it. What the physical therapist told me when he got there, he said more than 20% of people could get by without it, but most people aren't willing to do the work and they just get to a point where they don't incur the muscle doesn't fire, and then they can't straighten their leg and it starts to buckle and they get surgery. And he goes, the worst part, they don't do the after surgery therapy. And then they got a bum knee for life. For those in the medical field, am I spot on with that or right? So I said, what's the opposite of that? He goes, if you can straighten the muscle, do all those things. So I get this guy to come and the reason I'm sharing it is because I really mean it. I don't know. Even of a decade ago, I would have been disciplined enough to say I'm doing this. But over the years of being in business and wanting to be a good dad to four kids and a good husband and running two companies and being Tony Robbins partner and being good to you, like my discipline meter has Gone to another level. And I just literally sat down and said, why do I want to be in the minority of making this work? And I said, because I don't want the surgery. I want to ski with my son. I have a freaking 3 year old who can't wait to ski, wants to go ski this weekend. I need to ski with that kid, right? And I wrote down all the things. I'm like, my wife's a little bit younger than me. I don't want her looking at an older man limping. Like, I'm not gonna be the guy limping, right? So I just wrote down all this shit of, like, I tell my wife all the time, you're gonna catch me, we're gonna be the same age soon. Like, you know, I always joke with her, right? So I gotta stay in good shape, right? She was about eight weeks into our second baby. She's like, I think we're the same age now, but you rebound. I'm not gonna. I'm just gonna keep the. But anyway, I made a list of all the outcomes that wouldn't make this feel like a discipline, but more like, hey, I can defy the odds, right? I have not missed the day of surgery, of physical therapy every day from 5:35 to about 5:45, and then I work out after that. I have not missed a day since we started. He came this morning. I got up at 3 to work on a PowerPoint. At 5:30, he came and. And today, literally three weeks ago, one leg was like this. He could almost put a fist under the table. I couldn't straighten it. Today, my legs are completely even. I got no more atrophy. I can make a muscle here. I'm squatting as much as I did and it's not loose. And he said to me, today, he goes, this takes 90 days. He goes, you're done. You will never need surgery now. Yeah, so it sounds like. Look at me. I'm just saying, the only reason that stuck is because I literally had made a list of all the reasons I need. So when I don't want to do therapy and they, you know, they put the thing on and zap it and he puts this freaking. Anybody ever, like, they put a belt around your leg and pump the air so you can't have any circulation in your leg, and you're trying to do squats with it on, it feels like your leg's gonna explode, like, every morning. I hate it. And I'm like, my wife's not gonna see me limp. I'm gonna ski with My kids, my wife and I are gonna be the same age soon. Like, literally, I repeat all this shit and I'm like, put more weight on. And today I was like, no, I got more. Do more. And he's like, you are obsessed. I'm like, no, you told me only 25% of the people. That is an amazing challenge where I know most people say only 25%, I probably should get that surgery. So I'm sorry to take so long to share a story, but I think discipline can be our friend. And if we find a way to leverage. Tony always talks about leverage, right? If it feels heavy, then stack the leverage of something good that makes it feel like, oh, that's all I gotta do to be able to not have surgery, to play with my kids, to have a better relationship, have a better, have more income. That's the only. I'm afraid to go live, I'm afraid to do video. If that's all I gotta do is overcome that and video something every single day, live for the next 90 days until I'm better at it. If that's all I gotta do to be successful, screw it. If I gotta jump on a call and do a high ticket sale and I gotta learn it myself before I build a team, if that's all I got to do to be successful, I'm just going to do it. Like, that's the. We have to find that way. We have to find that way of saying, is that all I got to do? Because the rewards are so great and most people don't get the rewards to the other side. They get to the five yard line, they get. And that your spouse questions you, you have a failure, you're a little tight on money for 30 days because you're taking this gamble. And most people will go back and say, just give me the surgery. Let's just stick with what we got. I should be happy with what I have, right? So I think there's just this fine little line between living into that person we're meant to be and settling for the great person we could be. And I think we just have to find that line and find the disciplines that help us go to the next level. Sam.
