Weekly Wisdom #194 - What's Cool About You?

Dean Graziosi opens the "Send Me Away Dean" student contest with a vacation prize, then walks through a self-reflection exercise: list 10 things that are cool about you. The point is to measure yourself against your own progress, not against top students like Matt Larson.

Hey everybody, this is Dean Graziosi. Welcome to the Weekly Wisdom. Hey, you know, last week, if you didn't watch last week's blog, you can look over on this side and see the blog. Weekly Wisdom, we still call it the blog over there. You can watch it. It was a great blog. Had some great feedback from you guys about me going up and visiting Matt and the Quad Cities. If you're new to this site, you can enter in. We'll give you one of my books for free. But also so we have your first name and email address so we can send you reminders about the Weekly Wisdoms every single week. Welco. Hey everyone. So I hear a couple things I want to talk about today. First of all, something was sparked by last week's blog. I read every one of the comments. I appreciate the feedback. But one thing I wanted to remind everybody of last week I mentioned how Mike Mehrabi, who works for me here down in Phoenix, he gets all the home videos that come in when you guys send them in. And we had a bunch and we're getting them submitted to deansmedia.com and editing them and things. And so many come in at the end of the year for the Send Me Away Dean contest. I want to remind the newbies, the brand new people to the site. Besides browsing around, make friends, ask any question you want, watch old blogs, see all the powerful wisdom at this site. If you don't know what that is. Every year our students send in their home video of how their life was changed, the deals that they've done. Some stand in front of their homes with cue cards, some put on costumes. It's fun videos describing their success and how real estate and what we've shared has changed your life or changed their lives. We get countless videos every single year and we narrow them down the best we can to maybe five or seven that we can't decide. And the beginning of every year we let the students, we let you vote on the videos, which one you like the best and that person gets a vacation on me. Plus you get to be my partner. It's a pretty cool thing. Matt Larson was our first year winner, I think five or six years ago. Then we had Carol Stenson was a winner. John and Julie Wakefield, Chip and Andrea Wiley. This year Tammy Reocc won and it is just an awes awesome thing. Tammy and I are getting ready to do our first deal. We're doing that now. The rest of them I've done with Matt. I've done well over 400 deals and I've done a deal, at least one, with all the rest of them. I still do deals probably every quarter with John and Julie Wakefield. So it's an awesome thing. But here's what I know. Every year everybody sends in this flood of videos towards the end. And that's great. We love it because you want to get as many deals in as you can. But here's what I'd suggest, because we're still getting in videos all the time, is I'll put the link below to the Send Me Away Dean contest page. Now, let me disclaim. I know I'm digressing a little bit. That page was built many years ago. It's kind of an outdated page, but it has all the information on it and it can give you the information on how you can enter your video. Here's what I'd suggest. If you've made money or your life has changed, you're excited right now about what you're doing, go to the site, fill out the information, we send you a flip camera and get that filmed right away and get it back to us. Because here's what I know. A lot of the winners send their videos in early and people are watching them through the whole year at Dean's Media. And it starts to build momentum because remember, the students are the ones who decide who the winner is. So remember, if you had success, your life was changed. Go to the link below. Doesn't cost you anything to enter. What we want you to do is send in your documentation so we make sure that your claim is true. Once we know that, we send you out a video camera and a document to fill out and you film your success. You could be creative, have fun, or you could go with some of the traditional ones. You can go back and look at the past winners and see how they won. And really, it's just about being yourself and sharing your story that inspires others. We've had hundreds of videos come in. We narrow them down and we put 4, 5, 6, or 7. Towards the beginning of the year, we let the students vote and bam, you get to be my partner and go away. So get your video in. Don't wait till the end of the year. That took a while for me to explain, didn't it? Sorry about that. Okay, here's what I want to talk about today. So last week I talked about Matt. And yes, everybody knows Matt Larson, one of my top or the top student, great guy, good friend. We invest a lot together. What I want to make sure, though, because I read every single Comment what I want to make sure you don't do. And a couple of you hit the nail on the head and said this is I don't want you to compare yourself to Matt Larson. I don't want you to compare yourself to me. I don't want you to compare yourself to any of the rock star students on Dean Graziosi. I think Gina Heredes, I think you said this too, and good call. I want you to compare yourself to where you were before, where you were when you decided to get my book or go to my live event or start going to DG.com I want you to see your progression. So many of you say I haven't done my first deal yet, Dean, but you inspire me, you keep me excited and I'm just going to keep going. Well, that's good. What I want you to do is even though you're thinking I didn't succeed yet, that's nonsense. Look how far you've come. Watching my videos, reading my material, being involved in training. Maybe you have your real estate agent. Maybe you've put a 25 to 1 strategy together and you've already made offers. Maybe you got a buyer on your list, you found a foreclosure on your street. You're taking drives on Sunday for driving for dollars. You went to education, you stepped out of the box and actually paid to get the wisdom to go faster. You've accomplished so much already. That makes you really cool in my eyes and it should make you cool in your own eyes. Don't you dare compare to what we've done. Matt is a way above average student, but he's six years in now and the guy, all he does is sleep. E breathe real estate. He's not married, he doesn't have kids. His whole life is real estate. Maybe you have kids, maybe you're married, maybe you're working two jobs. You might not be able to go as fast or as quick as Matt. Now, in the beginning, Matt was literally working 100 hours a week to fit in real estate and his full time job, driving literally six hours each way from where he lived to where he invested. So I'm surely not saying Matt had it easier, but what I'm saying is don't dare compare. Use that as your inspiration, but judge only by where you were, where you are and where you want to go. So I'm going to give you another little exercise. This video is a little long, but I'm going to give you a little exercise that I've done before, but it's been About a year. And the exercise is called what's Cool About Me. Now I do this exercise every year in my 25k class, the networking group or the education group called 25k. Joe Polish is the proprietor and good friend and we go in there and share ideas and help each other. And one exercise we do every year is what's Cool About Me. So what I'd love you to do is take a piece of paper and this is going to be one of the hardest things you've ever done, if you've ever done this before. And I want you to label what's cool about me or write what's cool about me across the top and then write 1 through 10. And I want you to write down the coolest things about you. Now I say cool, it could be accomplishments or things you've done because in so many cases we compare ourselves to other people and we beat ourselves up forgetting all the amazing stuff that you've done, right? So I've done this over and over. And I write down things like, you know, what's cool about me is that I feel I am being the absolute best parent I could be. It's not humanly possible for me to be a better parent. I talk to a counselor once a week to make sure I'm making the right decisions. The counselor specializes in raising children when I don't have the right, you know, I don't have the right answers. When I feel confused, I do that once a week. I make sure I don't miss a darn school function no matter how busy I am. I try not to bring my work home anymore. When I used to work seven hours, seven days a week, every week of my life. Once I had kids, I decided no more weekends. That's pretty cool, right? I was in special ed til 10th grade, but I have several New York Times best sellers. I think that's pretty cool. I help change more lives than any other trainer on the planet. That's pretty cool. What I write about me. But what about you? Do you make your sons or daughters games or ballet even though you're stressed to the brain, stressed out of your mind? Do you make sure your kids get things before you because you don't have money? Sometimes that's really cool about you. When everybody in your family told you you were nuts to get involved in real estate, but you stepped outside the box and you went for it, that's pretty damn cool. When everybody else was trying to date the woman you married, you stepped up, asked her on a date and married the girl of your dreams. That's pretty damn cool. So I want you to go through right now and I want you to write down what's cool about me. And no one likes to do it. Force yourself to write down what's cool about you. So when you start feeling bad or you compare yourself to Matt Larson or me or somebody on the site that's doing deal after deal and you haven't done it yet and you're starting to feel discouraged, go back to that sheet and see what's cool about you. Make sure to remember where you were and how far you've come and remind yourself that you're doing this. Maybe it's a little tougher for you. Maybe your area is tougher. Maybe you learn slower. Maybe you're so darn busy you're only getting to put an hour a day in or an hour a week, it doesn't matter. You've accomplished so much in your life and you're about to accomplish more. So I want you to do what's cool. Oh, and you know what I'd love? This would be a really tough one because it's hard to share about yourself. I'd love for you to write below one thing that's really cool about you. I know we've done this exercise before, so if you have good, do it again. I do it every year in my class. I want you to do it every year. If you're new, do it. Get it done. Click the link below too, if you want to learn about the Send Me Away contest. Get your videos in and I'll see you next week.
