Weekly Wisdom #365 - Anchoring Your Goals With Emotions

Dean Graziosi explains how to build New Year's goals that actually stick: start with the emotion you want to feel daily, then work backwards to the actions that create it. Imagine how you'd feel in five years if nothing changes, then let that feeling drive your goals.

Hey, everybody. Dean Graziosi, welcome to the weekly wisdom. Okay, today I want to talk about goals. Yeah, goals. It's that time of year. The New Year's resolutions are coming where everybody creates all these crazy goals for themselves. No more sugar, no more bread, no more soda, no more cigarettes, Gonna go to the gym or whatever it is you do. You pack on these 30 or 40 goals New Year's Eve, and in so many cases, by February 15th, we're back to the life that we were trying to run away from in January. So here's what I'd love to start doing in preparation for New Year's. We still got. We still got plenty of time in preparation for your goals and making it an amazing 2016. I want you to do a little exercise for me this week. Let's start with the emotion of how you want to feel. So I would take this week and start thinking about how you would be happier, healthy, more alive. How would you make more money, more passion, more love, more intimacy in your life? What kind of feelings would you have? Would you have more confidence? Would you. Would you feel more secure? Would you feel alive? Would you feel silly, joyful? So if you work backwards with how you're going to feel, yes. This is some of the same stuff I've been teaching you for years. But we're heading into January, and you know you're going to have these New Year's resolutions, and these goals, I want them to be anchored in with emotions this year. So if you start thinking about how you want to feel, then start working backwards at the things you need to do, even just as important, what you need to eliminate. You know, so many times we talk about all the stuff we want to do, but we can't because we're sucked into the things we shouldn't be doing or don't want to do. So when you start with the emotions of how you want to feel on a regular basis, how do you want to feel when you wake up? How do you want to feel when you go to bed? How do you want to feel throughout the day? And then work backwards on your goals on what would make that better for you? That's how you start creating a goal list that sticks. And one more thing I want you to think about as we evolve from now until January is what if you don't accomplish your goals? What if you don't do anything different? What if you just make a long list of things that you would like to do, but you don't? How are you going to feel in a year how are you going to feel in five? If you were looking at yourself in the mirror right now and it was five years from today and all those goals, all those thoughts, all those things that you just wish about but don't wish for, but don't do, didn't come into play, and you've lived the same day over again every day for the last five years and you were looking in the mirror, how would that feel? I'm not saying you have a miserable, rotten life by any means. If you're watching, you're someone who's had massive accomplishment in your life, but you want that next level and you crave it. And if you stayed where you are, would you be happy? And if the answer is yes, then congratulations. But if the answer is no, then we have to do something to make this stick. Start with the emotions. Start feeling the emotions. If you don't accomplish these goals and work backwards and let's craft some real incredible goals so you can hit 2016 on fire. Next week, we'll go a little deeper on how to make them stick to your ribs and be a part of your life. But this is in prep for making next year the best ever. I'm Dean Graziosi.
