Weekly Wisdom #406 - Don't Wait For January 1st!

Dean Graziosi says don't wait until January 1 to change your life. Instead of New Year's resolutions, shift small daily habits by making old behaviors painful and new ones pleasurable. He starts his day at 5:00 a.m. at the gym, listening to audiobooks, and models these habits for his kids.

Hey, guys. Dean Graziosi, welcome to the Weekly Wisdom. It has been a crazy couple of weeks. I launched my new book, Millionaire Success Habits, and oh, my God, it did even better than I thought. I am so blessed. I am so grateful. I put my heart and soul into that book and it just skyrocketed. And people, the feedback is amazing. If you don't have it, you can go to deansbook.com I'm not trying to push it right now. It's on fire. You can go to Amazon and get it. I think it's $19.95 on Amazon. But I have a pretty special offer for my Dean Grazios@deansbook.com if you want to grab it. I'm so stoked. I'm actually a little tired. It's been insanity. I don't know if you saw it. It's all over the Internet. It's on tv. I'm very fortunate, very blessed, but I'm on a mission at this phase of my life. I want the message out there to allow everyone to see that they're not stuck, that these uncertain, crazy times are actually the time to thrive. You just need the right habits. And that leads me right into what I want to talk about with you today. Today we are heading into the holidays. We're heading into New Year's. I'm going to ask you, and I do this every year. This is going to be a short Weekly Wisdom. I don't want you to wait till January to make a whole list of all the things that you're going to hopefully do. And then by February, you're not doing any of them. Because here's the difference. What happens is we set goals, but we don't get change our habits. Think about that. We set goals, but we don't change our habits. Let's say you want to get in better shape, right? You want to get in better shape. I talked about this on Facebook Live. You get up in the morning, first thing you do is you pop open your phone and you look at the news go. Or you get that email and go, oh, man, I got to deal with that. I'll do that when I get to office, and you go grab a cup of coffee and then you flip on the tv. I'm not saying you do this, but. And all of a sudden, and your day starts and you're in kind of a negative mood or whatever it is, and you go through your day, if you make a decision, if you set a goal that you're going to lose weight, get in Shape and do all these things and that habit stays. There is no way you'll reach your goal. You're setting yourself up for failure. So how do you change habits? Well, that's why I wrote a whole book on it. It's the easiest way possible when you know how to shift it. But let me just give you one example. What that means is the only way you can do it is you have to associate more pain with your current habit and more pleasure to the new habit. Let me just give you an example. In the morning, so my alarm goes off at 5 o' clock to go to the gym. I want to tell you, most mornings I'm like, ah, do I really want to do this now? But what changes that is that what my bigger purpose is, is, yes, I want to look great. Yes, I want to feel great. I have young kids. I want to be enthusiastic, I want to be energetic for you. But mostly I know I work out because I want my kids to see that as part of their life. I eat right because I want that as part of their life. Kids don't do what you say, they do what you do. So when I get up at 5 o' clock in the morning and hit the gym, I can't wait to go because I get to show my kids what it's like to make health a priority. Second thing is every single morning on my phone, I listen to a book. While I'm working out for that hour, I'll be engulfed in a new book listening to it. So between showing my kids looking better, feeling better, and gaining wisdom, that pleasure outweighs the pleasure of just sitting and doing nothing in the morning. It's more exciting to do that. And then the pain of inaction, the pain of not looking great, especially my son busts my chops when I'm not in shape. He'll grab my belly and be like, really, dad? But kidding aside, I have more pain to inaction and more pleasure to action. I change that habit, that way of thinking, and then I change that physical habit. And now that's what I do every single morning. So what I want you to think about before we get to New Year's, before you set these big great goals that a lot of times fail, that you got to change everything about your life. I want you to in advance right now, start thinking of the little habits that you can shift. What can you change about your morning routine? Can you get up for. You know, I have all these different rituals I do. When I set my morning right, everything changes. I get up first Thing I want to do is think about something good. If I can't, if it's hard to find gratitude, I'll grab a book that I'm reading. I'll read three sentences out loud or. Or I'll listen to just a couple of minutes just to put me in that better state. Then I'll go feed my body with green drink and lemon water and some essential oils and then I'll go move. If I do that as a habit, my day is set up for success. If you have the habit of thinking the outside world is going to help it, maybe you didn't want the new president in. If you live here in America, maybe you're a candidate and didn't get elected, maybe yours did all those outside factors. If you're in a habit of waiting for your boss, your co worker, your wife, your kids, your. Your family, your employees to make you happy, that's a habit that you set yourself up for failure. So here's my thing. What I'd love for you to do. This is just prep of New Year's. Instead of thinking about the goals you're going to set, I would love for you to make a list over the next week of the habits you want to shift. The quickest way to success, in my opinion, it's why I wrote a habits book is if you can take the habits of the most successful people in the world. And I'm not talking about giving up your Starbucks habit or your favorite habit in the world. That's what people think. When it's habits. I'm talking about making these tiny shifts that give you the ability to course correct your life. It's going to be the habits you shift that determine the happiness, joy, abundance and money you make. That's just what I believe with all of me. I'd love for you to get my book. That's why I wrote a whole book. Go to deansbook.com and grab it. But even if you don't, what you need to do is analyze the habits you need to change. And I would love your New Year's resolution not to be I'm going to make a million bucks and lose 50 pounds. Say no. I'm going to change my morning routine and I'm going to think differently. The way money is made. Change those habits, change your life. That's my pre New Year's weekly wisdom. It's a pleasure and an honor to have you guys here do that this week. Give me a comment below, let me know what you're thinking. If you're watching this on Facebook. Like it? Share it. If you like it, share it. And I'll see you guys next week.
