Yeah. You know, us real estate people, you don't realize we have this secret committee that we now we just happen to be friends. Doug's a great guy, and he's one of the rare people on a reality show that actually lives it. His life changed completely because of real estate, and I want to chat with him a minute. You know, we just happen to run into each other. I'm down here doing one of my live events in Vegas. There's hundreds of incredible dean students in the other room just waiting to change their lives. I got to meet so many of them, and they're awesome. Hopefully I get to meet you someday. A couple announcements. I want to make some winners, some work I need done by you. But first, I was glad to have Doug here. He's doing it every day. He's changed his life. He went from airline pilot. Yeah.
I was a commercial airline pilot making $17,000 a year, literally qualified for food stamps. And, you know, I tell people the only thing I knew about real estate was I got paid a little bit of money to fly over it, literally when I started. And it's transformed my life, the lives of my family, everyone around me. I'm a true believer. And I just got the right people in my life, the right training, and everything changed.
That's awesome. And don't you love his enthusiasm? Is that awesome or what? So we're here, you know, my dean students. There's people watching right now that just got involved with our company. There's people that have been involved for a while, and they just didn't get their first deal. There's other my, you know, rock star students who are crushing it and want to go to another level. So if you had just a couple minutes to deliver some wisdom that they can go, man, that Doug guy's awesome. And this blog gave me this thought. What would that be?
Well, I think one thing is just social proof. I mean, I don't think anyone who would watch this ever needs to be told that real estate is the greatest vehicle. I think you already know that, and that's why you're here. But you're going to hear other things from other people who aren't on this blog that maybe still feel that way. But social proof is everything. If you look at the recent numbers lately, you know, in the last 12 months alone, right now in this market over 212,000 flips. Just the flips, not long term holds. Nationally created over $7 billion of wealth.
I mean, that's the spread between when it was paid for and when it.
Was sold for right now in this market. And it's only going up some of the. And the average price was about a $37,000 increase. And some of the latest numbers are increasing to about 70,000 nationally. So it's even getting better. The spread is better. The time has never.
He's not excited about real estate at all.
This is all I do. I love real estate. I travel the world now and it's all I believe and it's all I do because I am a true believer. It transformed my life from. Couldn't afford to have a child. We couldn't pay to have a child because we couldn't pay the costs. And everything in my life changed since then.
Well, yeah, I was hoping you'd do something with a little energy. No, I'm kidding. And this guy's so big, it makes me look tiny here. I gotta widen my shoulders or something, guys. You know, it's great just to have other, like you said, social proof of someone whose life is transformed. Think about this from an airline pilot. I know Doug's story. He literally took a left one day, ended up at a foreclosure auction and it just blew his mind. Like, what are all these people doing? How are they making money? And, and his wife to have a baby, they needed to do in vitro and it was 20 grand and he didn't have it. So he just dug in, kept going to the auction, learned real estate, did a deal, did a deal, spent, stayed eight years as a pilot while he was making money in real estate. Finally quit, and he's a full time investor. And the cool part about his reality show is that he wasn't a reality star looking for something and going out trying to do a deal. He was a kick ass real estate investor. And they came to him, said, let's do a TV show around what you do. So I give you a lot of props for that. Who would have thought? And if any lesson I could give so many of you, you don't know where life can lead you when you go down a new path. You know, the last month we've been talking a lot about what goes on in here. Just think when Doug made a left at that foreclosure auction that day, he had no idea real estate would take him to retire from a job he didn't like. That wasn't Paying him enough to have two beautiful children that he paid for with real estate proceeds to have your own freaking TV show that's a hit, and your TV shows around the entire world. All of it started because he just decided to clean out the cobwebs, do something different, and get into real estate. So. Okay, Doug, thank you so much. You can stay right here. No, stay right here.
