8 Dec 2025 · 10 min
This is episode 250 of Den Lennie’s “How to Scale a Video Business” podcast (also being published as YouTube content). Den reflects on relaunching his training programs and channel, then walks through how creating vision boards shaped his life and business over nearly a decade. He illustrates the power of visualizing goals (personal home, location, lifestyle, business growth), explains the psychological mechanism (brain treats imagined scenes similarly to real ones), and urges listeners to get very clear about their version of success, execute with commitment, and use vision boards to embed those images into daily life. The episode mixes practical advice with personal anecdotes and a closing call-to-action to engage with his channel and programs.

G', day, guys. It's Dan here.
And you know what? I've got a bit of a confession to make. This is actually episode 250 of the how to scale a Video business podcast. And I almost missed it. I've been so busy relaunching all of our training content for our two VBA programs that we've sort of taken a bit of a step back from the podcast this month while we get everything together for a bit of a relaunch. I say a relaunch. We're just going to kind of start doing it again, really. But I needed a bit of a break to rethink a few things. And actually we have just decided to start a YouTube channel again. And so I've been putting a couple of bits of content out there just to get back into the mix. And so what we're going to be doing is one episode a week will be a podcast, YouTube kind of video. And so that's what we're going to be doing. I want to. The truth is I had a number of clients say to me that they'd found me on YouTube and thought that I wasn't doing what I do anymore.
Because they hadn't seen me on YouTube for a while. And I am a huge YouTuber fan. And the thing about YouTube is when video content goes up there, it lasts for years. And so I've gotten out into kind of making some more YouTube videos. So if you haven't yet seen them, then head over to YouTube and Google Dan Lenny or search for Den Lenny. How to get a video business. And you'll see, you can subscribe and you'll see some videos we're making. And what's really cool is we're making these really kind of down and dirty, real rough and ready, no fancy production. We want our point of difference to be the fact we're not making super polished videos. Because I want to be as accessible as possible and share things that are working in our business, tell stories about what we're doing with our clients, and help you just take that next step in your journey. So we'll kick things off today. This is called how to guarantee you live the life that you want.
G', day folks. In today's video, I'm going to do something a bit different. In 2013, I created a vision board for how I wanted my life to look. And today I'm going to show you what that reality is just nine years later. Now we actually achieved this sooner. But I want to help you understand the power of vision. So I'm here in my office now. We can see here, that's just the office there. So I'm going to take you on a little journey. This is my lounge, cinema room, cinema screens up there, projector there. So one of my goals when I grew up in Scotland was I always wanted to live somewhere where it was good weather all the time and so we were able to dog, have a dog here.
They want to come with us. So what I wanted to do was actually find myself in a place where.
We could actually genuinely live the life we wanted.
And without compromise. And so let's put my safety gear on here. So what we did was we made it part of our life plan to live the life we wanted to live, where we wanted to live it and on our terms. So let me just put my helmet on here.
Now I don't know how this is going to work out because I try and ride this electric scooter whilst using this phone. It might get windy, so if it does, we'll have to kind of come up with a better idea. It's a bit windy today anyway.
Let me just close the garage door and I'm going to take you on a little journey.
If I can do this without falling over off my scooter, I'll be very impressed. So doesn't really think this through but you know, I like to keep this, this series videos nice and real. I had this vision that I'd make this video.
And I might end up killing myself. So sorry, the frame's not great. I want to show you what the reality looks like when you set a very clear intention.
And.
Just execute with absolute.
Certainty and consistency because you can have whatever you want in life. And I often hear people saying that video business owners, you know, they just. There's not a lot of money in video and a lot of people are scared to make money. And so I think that it's important to show you that it's okay to.
Make money in video and also, oops, let me just move that. That shouldn't happened. But also it's okay to make money doing something you love and doing something creative.
Because.
There'S a fallacy that, and this might not be any good audio wise, I might have to re record it. There's a fallacy.
Fact we'll come to this because I think the audio is going to be totally unusable. So we'll just speed this up.
So like I was saying before the wind rudely interrupted, you can have whatever you want in life. You just have to get really clear on what success looks like for you. And to me.
It'S this. You know, we live 400 meters from the beach. Get some shade here. Within 400 meters from the beach, we have the most incredible views either side. And I'm sharing this with you not to kind of gloat or gloat or boast, but rather than to help you understand that it's absolutely possible to create the life you want.
And it doesn't have to be at the expense of your time with your family. It doesn't have to be expensive, not working with clients that you love. And it's important to remember that.
It'S.
As much of a mindset as it.
Is anything else, and clarity and being very clear on what you want to achieve. And so the vision board exercise is one that fully allows you to create a visual representation of what you want your life to look like at some point in the future. And the way it works is it taps into your subconscious. And when you have your vision board printed out up in front of you every day you're in your office, you might look at it 50, 60, 70, 100 times. In doing so, you start to embed a new kind of way of life. So the brain can't distinguish between real and imagined. So if you see a picture of this, your brain's going, that's then standing on the beach. It would be the same as if you were standing on the beach. Your brain goes, I'm standing on the beach. But when you see me standing on the beach, it still triggers a response. And so the vision board allows you to get very, very clear on what you want to achieve in your life. Now, one of the great benefits of being visual artists, being creatives, is that we pre visualize stuff all the time. Whenever we make a film, we pre visualize what the outcomes would be for the client. We sometimes create storyboards. We create, you know, animatics and kind of visual guides as to what it's going to look like. So why don't you do that in your own life? Now, if you have done it in your own life, how's it worked out? Because I know now that creating vision boards is the single most powerful thing that I can do in my life and business. So much so that the vision board for 2013 became reality. In 2015, and then 2017, I did a vision board and 2019. So I kind of do them roughly every two years and to the point now where I've been trying to create my vision board for the last few months. And I was really struggling. So I had a blank sheet of paper called 2022 Vision. And one of the keys to it is to let it come to you. Don't try and force it. And now we've started kind of coming up with some ideas. We want to buy a shack or.
A kind of hut in the mountains.
And we want to buy some investment properties. This year we're really starting to think about our future. And I've got some really big plans for our programs as well. We've got plans to really elevate our elite mastermind and start running some live events around the world. And so.
You know, finding a way to create even more value. And these ideas come from being in an environment like this. It really is. You know, we're very lucky, but also we created our own luck, you know, I mean, this is our backyard.
And.
And I can tell you someone growing up in Scotland, where the weather wasn't great all the time, this is sensational. And I had a friend over the other day who lives in the uk, and he just said, you know, totally living the dream here. And I guess what was nice about seeing Simon was he reminded me that we are. But it. But none of this was by accident. So I guess what I want to leave you with is you've only got one life and you are absolutely in control of it. So if you really want something, create a vision board. Get very clear on what that future looks like for you, what your version of success looks like, and.
Execute with absolute commitment, because I promise you, if you do that, you can have absolutely everything you've ever wanted. That's it for me today, guys. I just thought I'd share this with you. I'm trying a few new things out on this channel. Let me know what you think of these videos. Are they useful, are they valuable? Or would you like to see something else? Let me know in the comments and.
I'll see you on the next video.
