In this video Derek Cole explains one of the five secrets for preventing HVAC breakdowns: sealing the home’s duct system. He frames home comfort as three inter‑related parts – the HVAC unit, the ductwork, and the building envelope – and notes that a failure in any of them reduces comfort. Citing Energy Star, he states that unsealed ducts can lose up to 20 % of airflow, meaning homeowners pay for air that never reaches the living space. He describes a proprietary, computer‑controlled aerosol sealing method that detects leaks and injects a safe, baby‑pacifier‑type glue to close them, typically reducing loss from about 20 % to 3‑5 %. By preventing air loss, the system draws in cleaner, filtered air, reducing dust and dirt that are the primary cause of AC and furnace failures. He links the discussion to a free “5 Secrets to Help Prevent Breakdowns” PDF and a “Healthy Home Challenge” series that further cover filters, UV lights, ozone, and other indoor‑air topics, encouraging viewers to download the PDF at simmons1hour.com and engage with the challenge.

Talk about another secret in our new PDF, the 5 Secrets to Help Prevent Breakdowns, and that is sealing your duct system. Sealing your duct system is one of the 5 secrets to help prevent breakdowns. Your duct system is— well, your duct system is a part of your— there's 3 parts to a home, okay? There's 3 parts to your comfort. Uh, it's the unit, it's the duct system air distribution or duct system, and it's the envelope, the home itself. So if one of those 3 are off— the unit, the duct system, or the home, meaning, uh, it needs insulation, uh, there's a gap in the roof, um, there's a problem with the siding, there's a problem with the crawl space. If one of those three are off, you're not going to be comfortable. So to go back to the duct system and sealing your duct, Energy Star says— now, Energy Star, not me— Energy Star says that you can save as much as 20% by sealing or insulating your existing duct system. That is how much air you are probably losing because your duct system has holes, gaps, uh, where screws are in, where joints are put together. It's not sealed. It's very, it's very difficult, and it's not even cost-effective to have someone manually seal your duct system, paint mastic on joints and everything, and try to, try to reseal it that way. Uh, the process we use to seal your duct system is a machine, a computer, and it's measuring off of air loss. So when it detects that loss, it then shoots out an aerosol. It's, it's a glue material. It's the same material, uh, babies have in, uh, baby pacifiers. It's very safe. It's the same type of glue that goes to those holes or those joints wherever you're losing air, and that's what it's attacking, and that's what it's sealing. Uh, we have been to homes before, it's been, you know, 20% loss in air, meaning you are paying, you're paying 100% of the air that comes out of your unit. So for every dollar of air you're paying for, you're actually getting 80 cents coming out of the grill inside the home. You're losing that much, 20%. That person was losing, was losing 20%. So for every dollar they spent in AC, they were only getting a return of 80 cents. Not very good. When we got finished, it was about 3 to 5%. I can't remember the exact number, but it was in that range. So let's just say it was on the high side, it was only 5%. It was only 5% when we got done. So For every dollar they spent, they now had 95 cents in the home versus 80 cents in the home. Big, big difference. So how does that help prevent a breakdown? Well, dirt is the number one killer of the ACs and furnaces. So the main thing you want to focus on is keeping the dirt out. There's many, many things you can do, but one of the most important things you can do is seal your duct system because that is where most of your air is being lost. So if the air is coming out of the unit at 100%, going down that duct system, leaving and going somewhere else, the unit is going to bring the air back. It needs. You want to be clean, crisp air from your home, not dirty air where it's sucking it from the crawl space or sucking it from, uh, the attic. Uh, you don't want it to be the dirty air that can then make your unit dirty, which will then make it work harder. You're spending more money on energy. You'll have more breakdowns because your unit is having to work harder because of the dirt buildup. So we, we talked about servicing your unit, cleaning your unit. This is one of those, you know, 5 secrets— sealing your duct system to help prevent breakdowns— because you want to bring back clean filtered air back to unit, back to unit, and prevent that dirt, dust, and dirt buildup so it doesn't have to work as hard. Um, so that's one of the 5 secrets. You can go to simmons1hour.com, simmons1hour.com. You'll see a link down there for the 5 secrets free PDF. Free download, free PDF download. Get your copy. But that is something I would also recommend because it's free 5-day access, and it's, it's me, William Skipper, comes on day 3. We talk about air filters, filtration, air cleaning, duct systems, duct cleaning, duct sealing, UV lights, ozone, all kind of things. All that free videos, free worksheets. It's daily email guidance from me. I'm going through day by day as to what we're talking about, links to the free content and downloads you can get, uh, because something— it is something very important and something you can easily handle. And according to Energy Star, as far as duct sealing, uh, you're losing as much as 20% capacity, uh, because of duct loss. Uh, and it's one of the biggest things, uh, you can do to turn that around is to seal your duct system. All right, take care. If you, if you need anything and you sign up for the PDF or for the Healthy Home Challenge, I'll send you an email.
