In this introductory video of the free 5‑day Healthy Home Challenge, Derek Cole explains why indoor air quality matters and how controlling the air that circulates through a home’s HVAC and duct system can affect health. He shares his personal story of being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2012, noting that while there is no cure, he can manage his condition by controlling lifestyle factors—drawing a parallel to how homeowners can manage the air they breathe. Derek then introduces air filters, describing the MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) rating system, where a higher MERV number means a more efficient filter that captures more allergens, bacteria, and pollutants. He outlines the structure of the challenge: five days of videos, emails, worksheets, and a quick‑start guide that will teach participants how to identify what’s in their indoor air, why it’s there, and actionable steps to improve it, especially for those dealing with allergies or asthma. The video ends with a call‑to‑action to click the link and join the free training.

Someone has a problem, we can immediately address it and fix that problem. And that's really when I became passionate about this business because I saw how many lives we could affect by what we're doing. Because we have— we're in HVAC, heating and air. I mean, the air in your home travels through your heating and air system, your duct system, so many times a day. We can actually control what the air is, how clean it is or how dirty it is. We can actually start controlling that air, which in turn is going to control what you're breathing. It's going to control some health benefits. It's going to, it's going to help you understand and control those germs and bacteria and things that all come into the house. But we're going to break it back down over the next couple of days. I've been there for 20 years. For you guys who don't know my story, again, my name is Derek Cole. In 2012, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. One of the effects I have is slurred speech. I have tremors. So during these videos, if you see that going on, just know that I'm not in pain. Don't worry about it, but it is going to happen. But really in 2016, I started realizing that, hey, I, you know, the same thing we do in homes, taking control of that air, is the same thing I can start doing with my body. Even though there is no cure for MS, I can control how I exercise, what I put in my body, what I eat, what I drink. And that kind of goes the same principle because you can start control what is in your air. So I want to start today with the Module 1 here, and we're going to talk about air filters. And air filters are categorized in what they call MERV ratings. MERV rating is basically the higher the number, the more efficient the filter is., and the better it is at controlling allergens and things in there. Hey guys, Derek Cole here, and have you ever wondered about the air in your home? What do you breathe in? What is your family breathing? Uh, what is causing allergies and asthma?
