Between Season for your heating and air

Derek Cole shows how to set your thermostat to AUTO mode during spring and fall. Set cooling to 75°F and heating to 64-65°F so the system switches automatically. Schedule HVAC maintenance after summer to prepare for winter.

Welcome to the in-between season. That's the season that we're in now, in between being— you have warmer days, colder nights. How are you supposed to handle that with your temperatures inside and with your thermostat? Well, to me, in my experience, the best thing to do is leave that thermostat on auto. Not to leave it on heat, not to leave it on cool, but turn your thermostat to auto and then set your temperatures for what you want for cooling and what you want for heating. Um, so the cooling temperature, you know, if it gets above— say you set it for 75— if it gets above 75, the cooling will come on. The cooling will come on if it gets above 75. Maybe you set the heating At my house, it's like, you know, 64, 65. So if it gets below that set point, let's say if you set it at 65, if it gets below 65, the heat will come on. So auto gives you the best of both worlds, so you're not always going back and forth to the thermostat to get comfortable. No, you have your two different, different set points for heating and for cooling. And that way, in this good— this nice in-between season where it's nice weather but it can get a little warmer in the days or it can get a little cooler at night, uh, you have those set points set up so your system will heat or cool depending on what you need. Versus you, you know, having to constantly look at the thermostat or fix the temperature or get comfortable. Go ahead and set your thermostat to auto. That way you're not too warm, not too cold. You know, when you have those cool nights, you do have that heat coming on versus getting up and being a little chilly and then having to turn heat on. But let's let the thermostat, let the setpoints work for you. You don't have to do it manually. So take it out of heat mode, take it out of heat mode, or take it out of cool mode and go to auto. Have that set, have those setpoints set up for what you want, whatever is comfortable for you. That way you'll have what you need when you need it. Versus, you know, getting warm, getting cold, set it on auto. It's, it's kind of a, you know, in the mid, in the middle of the summer, June, July, you know, sitting on cool is fine. This time of year, when you get to October, November time frames, well, September, October, November sometimes, set that on auto., so you're not caught off guard when you have those cool nights or warmer days. Uh, and going to get a unit maintenance after the summer to make sure you're good to go for the heating season, even though you're still using some cooling and heating as well this time of year. Uh, it's been a long hot summer. Going to get the unit cleaned, maintenance checked, serviced, maintained, make sure you're good to go for the winter, but with the thought that you're probably this time of year going to have to go back and forth between heating and between cooling. But if you have any questions, feel free to respond to me here. I'll be glad to answer. I'll read what's going on.
