In this solo talk, Derek Cole highlights the rapid rise of audio as a dominant consumer interface. He reflects on his personal experience using the Anchor app to create a personalized news brief that can be accessed via voice assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Home, and anticipates Apple’s entry into the space. Cole argues that audio will become a routine part of daily life—people will wake up, ask their devices for a morning brief, and receive tailored news, sports, and weather. He emphasizes the business potential for entrepreneurs, focusing on advertising and sponsorship models—particularly national versus local opportunities—and urges listeners to pay attention to the evolving audio ecosystem and position themselves at the forefront.

Hey guys, Derek Cole here. The main problem we see any season is dirt. something that's been on my mind for the last while, and I saw it today when I was in line before I left the meeting this morning. It's audio. I mean, they were texting with voice, which I've obviously seen before, but now I'm kind of more sensitive now because I've been thinking about audio, and with Anchor kind of improving— if you remember Anchor, it's an app I talked about a about 2 years ago, year and a half ago. But on Anchor, I set up my news brief. So, you know, I hit it, hit play, it gives me the news, sports, the weather. And that's just gonna, you know, be what's normal. It's gonna be Amazon Alexa, it's gonna be what Google Home is. I mean, a lot of people are just going to probably wake up that morning in the kitchen getting coffee, say, you know what, Amazon or Alexa or Google, give me my morning brief or my news for the morning. And it's gonna, you know, obviously spit it out because you set up for what you want and it's gonna give you that exact brief. So I guess the thing you got to figure out, the thing you got to play in, is kind of wide out there. You gotta figure out, you gotta play in it. You know, how do I get— my first thought is that, how do I get advertising in there or sponsorships in there? And obviously that's more of a national play than, uh, than local, uh, but it's something to think about and kind of play with. But just watch out, just kind of pay attention around you. Audio's, you know, getting huge. Anchor has Anchor, which is the audio app for voice. You know, I talked about it a year and a half ago, 2 years ago, and it's gotten better, starting to come around a little faster, making some good improvements. So that's something to keep an eye on. And, you know, Amazon and Google, I'm sure it won't be long until Apple gets in the game too. That's something to keep an eye on because it's It's real, it's happening. And us as entrepreneurs and business owners, we gotta figure out, we gotta figure out how to, how to get in that space so he can be out front.
