Duct Systems | Healthy Home Challenge

William Skipper explains that 95% of U.S. homes have leaking ducts, losing 25-40% of heated or cooled air and wasting roughly 30 cents of every dollar spent on climate control. Mechanical cleaning and sealing can fix the problem and improve indoor air quality.
95% of all homes have leakage. Yes, 95%. That's a high percentage rate. But let me tell you some tests we've done here just to prove it. We've taken brand new systems that we built inside our shop and tested the leakage even after we've sealed them. And do you know there's still leakage there even after we took the time?
You—
25 to 40% of all your heated and cool air leaks out 25 to 40% in the summertime. Do you want that cool air anywhere but your home? No. The wintertime, same way. You don't want that warm air inside your home. Guys, what does that equate to? 30 cents out of every dollar you spend in heat is wasted. Wasted. I could take 30— if you told me you can give me a dollar but I got to give you 30 cents back, I I don't want to do that. I want the whole dollar. You do too. Do you realize that if you took that number and you just took it across the United States, that that is over $25 billion in energy wasted every year in the United States alone? They're wanting us to be as efficient as we can to help the environment. We can attack a lot of it, $25 billion worth, just by attacking your duct system efficiency and health. All right, how can we do this? How can we do this? Well, let me, let me tell you, there are several ways. When we talked about making sure the duct system is installed properly, but say we're dealing with a system that's a duct system that's been in the home for years, come out and realize we're leaking duct. What can we do? Well, one, if we're leaking duct and like I talked earlier, we're introducing these nasties into your system, we're gonna need to clean them out, correct? We want to get them out. That way we're starting on a clean slate. So we can actually go into that duct system and clean the duct system. How do we do that? Let me grab my eraser right quick. I'm gonna erase this duct system here. How do we do that? We do that mechanically. With a system that we use on our trucks that we can hook to the duct system. All right, let's draw the same duct system again.
