You can run a fireplace and HVAC together, but HVAC is more efficient. Vented fireplaces work fine if the flue is clean. Never use an unvented fireplace with HVAC because they emit toxic fumes and their own manuals tell you to open a window.
Can I use my fireplace and H Vac system at the same time? You can use both. I mean, your H Vac system is more efficient at heating than the fireplace, but you could definitely use both. Just make sure it's a vented fireplace and the flue is clean and that you know stuff is going out the flue. Unvented Fireplace I would always recommend against unvented fireplaces. Why is that? Unvented fireplaces are not healthy for you. If you were to read the install manual and the service manual for that unvented gas log system, you would see it wants you to open a window while you have it on. It's the winter time. I'm not going to open a window and have it on. The reason is because the fumes are toxic. If you have a vented fireplace and a H vac unit, it's fine to use both, but a fireplace is probably the least efficient way to heat your home.
