FIXING TO BE 8 HOURS | Derek 36

Derek Cole shares how a chance meeting at a Pinehurst mixer turned into multiple deals, arguing that showing up in person builds trust better than digital marketing. He compares consistent networking to an air conditioner working overtime in summer heat: you need the infrastructure in place before demand hits hard.

What's up guys, long time no see. Hey guys, Derek Cole here. The main problem we see in these Season is dirt. What's up guys, long time no see. Um, with the holiday and me not feeling well, um, the vlog has kind of gotten behind. But we are back. It's summertime. I mean, it's the 1st of June, so hot weather is rolling, and you know what you expect summertime to be. So that's been good. Head to my first meeting here in Pinehurst, and then it's going to be a lunch meeting here in Pinehurst as well. They— it's networking. I mean, the contact I made last mixer has turned into a couple of deals already. So, I mean, that's why you have to go out. You got to shake hands, you got to talk to people, you got to meet people, you got to fill that need that they're looking for. And you never know. I mean, I spent— I spent years talking to people every week and nothing really, really happened. Happens. Uh, I meet this one person and we spend 5 minutes together, we're talking, we're saying bye, later, and it turns into a couple deals already. So I mean, you just gotta show up and be present. I mean, to feel— to feel the need, uh, that they were looking for was something that was there. Um, obviously I didn't know that going into it. Uh, the goal is always to, you know, meet people and, and to make connections and and provide that value, and this happened to work out. So I mean, just one little example like that makes the whole process worth it because you just never know what's going to happen when you go and start networking and start talking to people and shaking hands and meeting people. So that's, um, you know, I've been kind of pushing that the last few episodes on on networking face-to-face, one-on-one. I think something that, you know, we all need to be doing a better job of because we're in such a— well, we're in such a website, digital, automated kind of world. You know, it is what it is, and obviously this is, you know, a video blog and social and everything like that. I mean, that is what it is, but I still real thing. There is a place for the old-school face-to-face networking, talking to people, uh, and that right there just, you know, proves it. I mean, my meeting this morning, it's a good group. I mean, over half of them are a club member we've done business with on a consistent basis. And one day, you just have to keep being there, keep showing up, and then, and one day, hopefully they will have a need and they will think about you because what they have been doing or who they have been using is letting them down or is not working for them anymore. So again, yeah, you have to be in the right place at the right time as well. And you just have to keep— I mean, it's branding is what it is. It's branding. It's branding. It's always— it's pounding the message over and over and over again. You know, you got sales and marketing and you have branding. So networking is completely branding. I mean, I'm not passing out, you know, flyers every time I go to a networking event and saying, hey, we got this tune-up special going on, or we got this special on this kind of product going on. I mean, some people do, some people do those kind of things, and it does not work. And then the next time they see you, they kind of stand back a little bit because What is he gonna talk about now? What is he gonna push on me today? That's you and that works for you, then great, keep doing it. I'm just not that kind of person, and that kind of strategy doesn't even, you know, compute with what I want to accomplish or the relationships I want. I want to build relationships one-on-ones. If we have a transaction, it might be today, it might be tomorrow, it might be next year. Last year, but I'm confident eventually you're going to try our services. If it's a free offer or it's a coupon discount, uh, one day you pick up on and you need it, great. But I'm confident that, you know, through our relationship, uh, eventually those walls will come down. And, um, that's what you gotta, you know, kind of go for it. But headed to the first meeting today. Sorry for the, uh, what is this, almost 6-minute rant, uh, on this. But, uh, just talking to you.
Me. I can show you mine. I can show how the vibe is with me. Take a bite of me, bite of me. Give your best to me, best to me. I just want to be, want to be something in your mind, something on the side. Hey, take, take a bite of me, bite of me. Take the best of me, best of me. I know I will let you see, let you see. We can go Go.
Just got back to the office, fixing to go in here and see what's going on. But it's been a, uh, it's been a good day of networking and, uh, the luncheon and seeing those people. Um, somebody asked me a question about, you know, why their AC, why would it go out when it gets hotter outside? And I thought I came with a good answer, which was, uh, I said, well, it's kind of like your car, you know, it's It's fine to drive around town because you're safe and not too much risk. Hence of 75-degree weather, 70-degree weather, you know, if it breaks, no big deal, I get it fixed. I said, but summertime, 95 degrees, 60% humidity, it's like taking that on that 8-hour trip, you know, you gotta take it for the long haul. And then I said it was fixing to get 8 hours.
