Multiple Sclerosis and Check-Up at Duke University Hospital | VLOG 42

Derek Cole documents a day of MS monitoring at Duke University Hospital, including an MRI scan and doctor's appointment. His latest tests show his condition remains stable with no changes, and he reflects on gratitude after a prior relapse didn't show up in the imaging.

Water that's gonna get on the way back to the shop, on the way back up here in the morning. I take a piece of paper towel, walk back the other side of the pan. How we gonna hold it? Right there. That's what I want to know. Very, very, very good. What's up guys? Hadn't vlogged in a long time. Um, anyway, today I'm at work headed to Duke for some tests. Um, I know in the previous ones I've done kind of a— it's been more of a highlight reel for my day and my MS. But now we're going to start getting more real. I'm finally comfortable enough, as you can hear this morning. I'm a little tired, which leads to slurred speech. So before I go to Duke, I'm gonna eat some breakfast, make sure everybody's good to go here, take a quick 5-10 minute nap, and then hit the road. But, uh, Caravan stuff. My head. Nap done. Hey, Duke. That the president's meeting is going forward. That was followed hours later by a top North Korean official saying— Not in Durham yet, I'm in Sanford, about halfway through. Stopping at Hardee's in Sanford here to use the bathroom. By the way, a little hack for you, Hardee's is probably one of the best bathrooms just because you don't have to see anybody and you can go in the side door and use the bad. All right, so, uh, made it to Duke. I just got done parking in here and headed to the cancer center for the MRI. Um, it's gonna be like 45 minutes. 45 minutes long, and then, uh, headed back in this direction where I am now to my appointment with the doctor. Yeah, so my appointment is down here. The cancer center is over there, over there. It's right there. See him parked over there? Go this way. We haven't caught the thing yet. That's just better than not. So the, um, walkway dumps you on floor 2. Radiology is on floor 1. So after the bathroom, we have to go down to level 1. There we go. This should be me over here too. I want to say no. I have to write my name. Man, my writing skills. Have deteriorated. The best I got. Now we wait. Um, I'll do the MRI. I'm just tired. No, I'm gonna do the MRI so I'll be laying down and comfortable through all the noise, but, uh, there will not be a nap. I'll just get to lay down. I've never been injured by metal any— well, that was a lot of fun. Lunch is done, so we're gonna head over here and see what kind of lunch we can get our hands on before the next one. Nice deployment. Got some salad, turkey, and I'm not gonna get the dressing. Got some chips, of course, Coke Zero. Finished with that, finished with lunch. I'm just sitting out here. Wasn't, you know, the best lunch ever. I like Chipotle, which is on down the road, but that involved me having to go back to parking deck, get my car, drive over to Chipotle, eat, drive back, park again, and walk again. And with everything going next day, I doubt it's gonna work out in my favor, so I decided to stay here. My next appointment is probably 45 minutes away, so I'm gonna walk over there and see if we can speed this up a little bit because I got to the MRI a little early and that moved it up. So see if we can move this one up. Apparently there's a lot of, uh, sick people, sick people here. So I'm thinking, I think I'm one of them. Let's think positive though, think positive. Even though I'm a true Carolina fan. You do have to say this is kind of pretty. Oh yeah, just to give you some more orientation, that's the parking back over there. MRI was way down there, lunch way down there, and the Duke Clinic is further down this way. All right, checked in in the waiting room. Okay, so at the, uh, the next stop, so waiting on the doctor, and then I have to FaceTime Jodie, um, when he comes in, so obviously I can't record the FaceTime, so there's only one of me here. But, um, I don't know, not too bad. So we're tracking a little early, 10 minutes early, so the earlier the better because I got church tonight. All right, doing a visit summary. Everything's stable, everything is good. I did all the routines that worked, so we're in good shape. No change as is, so we'll keep pushing. Checked out, now time for blood work. I'm getting a little tired. All right, blood work is done. Done. Headed back to the car, headed back to LBG. Well, back to work. But, uh, everything's stable, everything is good, everything's normal. Praise God for that. Um, so I had a, I think, a relapse between MRIs, but Nothing's showing any difference, so we're good to go. So stable. Back at the office.
