The Comfort Experts - Cooling Costs

Derek Cole and William Skipper explain how leaving exterior doors open forces your AC to work harder. Even a few seconds of an open door on a 90-95°F day lets significant heat in. Closing doors after checking mail or letting pets out cuts cooling costs.

Hey, Derek Cole and William Skipper, welcome to the show. We're talking about lowering your cooling bills and a good tip to do that is shut the door.
That's right. People, you go outside to check the mail, pull the door in behind you. Letting a pet outside, pull the door in behind you. Those brief few seconds that you leave that door open allows a tremendous amount of heat to get in your home, which is going to cause your unit to run longer to try to dehumidify and cool that off. So it doesn't take long just to pull the door behind you.
Yeah, I'm talking too about those front doors with the glass screen door and then leave the second door open.
That's right. Well, even with the glass door, if you leave the main door open, that glass radiates heat through. Yeah. And if you pull that second door too, then you're going to prevent that from happening as well.
So close the door. You get a 90, 95-degree day, you're not helping the situation. No, not at all. In the house. So again, close the door. Another great cooling tip.
