In this episode of The Comfort Experts, hosts Derek Cole and William Skipper discuss home electrical safety, focusing on hazards that are especially relevant to families with young children. They share a personal anecdote about a child’s experiment that caused a brief power outage, then outline key safety concerns: the need for child‑proof outlet covers, recognizing and avoiding loose or wobbly plugs, and spotting frayed or cut wiring. The hosts stress that such conditions pose both shock and fire risks, and they advise homeowners to discontinue use of faulty components and to call a qualified electrician promptly for inspection and repair. The episode blends conversational storytelling with practical, safety‑first recommendations.

Hey, this is Derrick Cole along with William Skipper of The Comfort Experts, and today we're talking about your electrical system in your home and more importantly, the plugs that are so reachable.
By kids. That's right, Derek. Um, I remember a little story when I was a kid. I had the little Operation game. Everybody remembers Operation. Stick the tweezers in, you hit the side.
That wasn't a very good—
yeah, well, I decided one day I was going to see if I stuck those tweezers in the receptacle, if his nose would light up bright. It did for about 2 seconds, and then the whole house went dark. I remember the next thing hearing is my mom hollering, "What happened?" Must be a storm outside. Yeah, I don't know, Mom, it's still dark back here. I don't know, the lights just went out. But you know, kids will explore, Derek, but kids are not the only thing you need to worry about with your electrical system.
All right, you need to worry about bad plugs. And kids, going back to kids, kids under 6 really like to explore, so get those little plastic plugs put them in the outlets. But you could also have some bad plugs. So what if that plug appears loose or kind of wobbly?
If it is, just dispose of it. Take it out. Don't even try to plug it in because that's a fire hazard. That's an electrical shock hazard, but it's also a fire hazard. Along with frayed wires. If you see wires that are cut and have been frayed, that's another thing we need to kind of keep an eye out for.
Yeah, so if you have that problem in your house, call a professional. To get it looked at as soon as possible. So, for Derek Cole, this is William Skipper. We are The Comfort Experts.
