Derek Cole and William Skipper explain why your air filter stays clean even though you replace it regularly. Leaky return ducts let air bypass the filter entirely, sending dust straight to the evaporator coil instead. Get your ductwork inspected and sealed to fix it.
Hey, this is Derrick Cole along with William Skipper and we are The Comfort Experts. And today we are talking about filtration. Now, we get the people who call in and say, "Look, I'm checking my filter. I'm changing it every 30 days, but it's not getting dirty." So William, what could be some of the causes of that filter not getting dirty?
Well, if you find a filter that's not getting dirty, more than likely you've got leaky duct and more so a leaky return. A leaky return will cause that air to bypass that filter. When it does bypass the filter, all of that dust and dirt that the filter would normally catch now is being caught by your coil. Also, if you've got a leaky return, more than likely, Derek, you also got leaky supply. Leaky duct is something you need to try to take a look at. Call somebody, call us. We'll come out and take a look at it and tell you what your ducts look like.
Right, because air is just like water. It's going to go to the easiest avenue to get to where it's going. The unit wants to breathe. So if it's easier for it to pull in from the duct leaks, it's going to do that versus going through the filter, right? That's right. So give us a call if you need us, 910-534-4462.
