The Comfort Experts - Home Appliances

Derek Cole and William Skipper explain why you should pull your refrigerator away from the wall once or twice a year to clean underneath and behind it. Dust buildup forces the coils and compressor to work harder, raising your energy bills and risking breakdowns. The same goes for stoves and dishwashers.

Hey, this is Derrick Cole along with William Skipper. Welcome to the Comfort Experts. Today we're talking about home maintenance and mainly with your appliances and the refrigerator. So Skip, what can they do with their refrigerator to make sure it's maintained?
Well, Derrick, not just your refrigerator, all your home appliances, stoves, dishwashers, and again your refrigerator, just clean them. And when I say clean them, I'm not talking about just wiping down the outside or cleaning out the old stuff on the inside. Actually, let's pull them out away from the wall. Let's clean out from under them, clean behind them, clean the grill off. How many times do we want to move furniture around, we slide it out, we're kind of hesitant about looking back behind it to see what's in there? Just do it once or twice a year. Just slide it away, clean it. That helps prevent future breakdowns, right?
Because when you talk about the fridge especially, you're talking about— it's basically a heat pump in your house, so it has coils, and it does— dirt, debris get on that, it could cause it to work harder.
Yeah, and it can also— causing it to work harder could cause a compressor stuff to fail, and you're not just getting your, you know, running your utility bills up a little bit.
Yeah, so back it away, uh, the fridge, the stove, back them away vacuum, clean it, and make sure it's maintained, and you will save energy, which will save you money.
That's right.
