In this episode of the Comfort Experts show, hosts Derek Cole and William Skipper share practical home‑safety advice for homeowners who will be away. They begin with a brief brand introduction, positioning themselves as heating‑and‑cooling specialists who also provide general home‑maintenance tips. The core of the episode is a list of five actionable recommendations, sourced from Better Homes and Gardens, to make a house look occupied and reduce burglary risk: (1) arrange for a neighbor or friend to collect mail; (2) have the same person handle scheduled garbage pickup; (3) keep the lawn mowed and weeds trimmed during summer; (4) use timers on lights or a TV to avoid a dark house; and (5) keep travel plans and itineraries off public social‑media platforms, informing only trusted friends and family. The hosts illustrate the advice with casual dialogue and a brief personal anecdote about an upcoming trip. The episode closes with a promotional plug for the Comfort Experts’ HVAC services and the website 1houraircarolinas.com.

That's a good indication you're not home.
Yeah, that's right. And also, Derek, if you've got a regularly scheduled garbage pickup, have that same friend or neighbor come by and take that garbage can out to the road, come back and put it back in the garage or whatever it is. Make sure that your regular scheduled events are taking place.
By the way, By the way, neighbor, I will not be home every other Thursday, so I'm going to need you to take care of this. But also, during the summer especially, get somebody to mow your grass. Another key indicator you're not home is when the weeds pile up.

Yeah, and most— I think probably the most important tip is keep your travel plans to yourself.
That's right. And I know a couple of people that probably could heed this advice. Keep your travel plans and itinerary off of Facebook. Yes, everybody wants to know where you've been, but You don't want the criminals, and Facebook and other media outlets are the perfect place for those unwanted guys to see where you're at when you're not going to be home.
I mean, by all means, let your friends and family know what's going on, you're fixing to go away, but try to refrain from posting it everywhere on social media. That way it doesn't draw a red flag to your house.
Yeah, I'm leaving at 4:30 today, going to be gone for a week.
And by the way, here's my address.
