The Comfort Experts - Thermostat Settings

Derek Cole and William Skipper explain why southern homeowners should use the "auto" fan setting instead of "on." Leaving the fan running continuously draws in humid outdoor air through leaks, worsening moisture problems. The "auto" setting lets the air conditioner's compressor run and dehumidify properly.
On today's episode of The Comfort Experts, we're going to talk about your thermostat settings.

Hey, this is Derrick Cole along with William Skipper, and today we're talking about the thermostat fan settings. So you have an on position and you have an auto position. So William, Which one is better?
Well, for this area, Derek, in the South, I see very little time that a customer should have their fan set in the on position during the summertime. We have so much humidity in the air during this time of year that I would want that air to come on with the compressor so we could properly dehumidify that air and keep that humidity from building up in the home. Leaving that fan set in the on position can pull air from the outside in places that your home might be leaking. And cause undue humidity problems in the home.
Right, and the biggest problem we've seen are people who move from the north to the south and they want to leave their fan on.
Yeah, they want to open the window and turn the fan on, and this time of year in the south, that is the wrong thing to do.
Also check your thermostat to make sure it's on heating or cooling depending on what season you're actually trying to achieve that.
Yeah, remember, like I said before, heat means heat, not summertime.
