Here's my controversial take on closing vents in your home. You should never close vents in your home. The air in your home, the H Vac unit, the air distribution system, is made and designed to keep the home cool. You have that room that you're not using. You think closing the vent will save you energy. It's not saving you energy. It's not doing anything but potentially causing a problem because that air is going to try to back up into the system and the units are going to have to work harder to push it back out because you're in this constant push and pull to get the air where it needs to go. So leave vents open and leave vents unobstructed from drapes, furniture. Leave it clear.
