Short YouTube segment (host: Derek Cole) advising viewers not to install thermostats themselves. The speaker cites repeated customer mistakes—miswiring, touching wires, and blowing transformers or fuses—that can disable HVAC units and force service visits; he recommends professional installation to obtain a warranty and avoid such problems, and invites viewers to share their DIY experiences in the comments.
Do it yourself. Thermostat installation, Yay or nay? I'm going to go with nay only because, yes, you can do it yourself. But we've had so many customers call in and have trouble with the DIY thermostat because they touch wires, they don't wire it up right. All of a sudden they blow a transformer, blow a fuse. Now the whole unit's not working. And now we have to come out and we have to fix everything, which we don't mind doing, by the way. Actually, what we do is come out and fix the problem. So if you have a thermostat in, we can install it for you. Get a professional to install it, get a warranty with it. Don't do it yourself. Have you ever tried to install your own thermostat? Look, it's okay between me and you. Let me know in the comments what happened.
