In this YouTube video, Derek Cole walks through the air filter aisle at Walmart, comparing the variety, pricing, and MERV ratings of the filters available. He points out that Walmart carries fewer options than Lowe's but still enough to be confusing. He reviews specific products: a gray 4‑pack (MERV 5, $17) he advises against, an orange MERV 10 filter ($11 for one, $19 for a two‑pack), and a purple MERV 12 filter ($29 for a two‑pack). Cole explains the importance of MERV ratings, recommending not to go below MERV 8 and generally not to exceed MERV 10‑12 unless the HVAC system can handle the reduced airflow. He highlights the trade‑off between filtration efficiency and airflow, noting that higher MERV numbers capture more particles but can restrict airflow. Cole also compares Walmart prices to his own website, Simmons1R.com, where he claims better pricing and convenient auto‑delivery. He concludes with practical tips for shoppers: know the MERV rating you need, avoid low‑rated filters, and consider online ordering for better value and convenience.

So we're back at Walmart. Today we're looking at the air filters at Walmart. We did Lowe's earlier, so what does Walmart have available? Let's take a look and find out. So these are the many filter options at Walmart. Not quite as many as Lowe's, but still enough to be confused. So I was looking at the gray because I haven't seen this before, but this is a 4-pack for $17. It is a MERV 5 filter, so we want to stay away from that. So definitely don't want the gray. Uh, if you switch over to the orange— oh, not bad, it's MERV 10. Orange is a MERV 10, so you get one for $11. Yep. Or what is this, $19? 3 is $20. Okay, so you get one for $11, two, a two-pack for $19. Um, guys, not trying to be hard on Walmart, but I'm saying our website has these filters for much better pricing. If you look at the two-pack of the purple, which again is Merv 12, starting to get a little higher than I like, but look at the Merv Pro, look at $29.20 for a 2-pack. So $29 for 2. Um, so if you look on the website, it's a little bit better than that. So again, what we talked before, Merv 8 is probably as low as I would go, uh, depending on your system and what needs to be done to it. The higher you go in the number, the more efficient it is at collecting particles. But there's always that trade-off between collecting particles and airflow. The higher the number, the better it is at collecting particles, but you're also going to start reducing airflow. So for many folks, MERV 12 I get this right here, it's probably a little too much. The MERV 5 in the gray is too little. This one here, does it even have a MERV reading? I don't know. This is obviously the cheapest one for $7.48. It's what, 4? A 4-pack of MERV something. That's too small. So, um, a lot of options here at Walmart, but again, I would not recommend going lower than a MERV 8. Wouldn't go too much higher than MERV 10, uh, or even 12 if your system can handle it. But if you go MERV 10, you're going with the orange one at Walmart for $19— I'm sorry, $11 for one. $19 for a 2-pack. You go on Simmons1R.com and get much better pricing, and they get delivered to your door. You don't have to worry about anything. You can set up auto delivery so you never have to be like this, uh, lady I saw a while ago kind of wondering which footrest she should get. She got number 5. My opinion, a little too small, but it is a cheaper option. So just know what you're looking for, know what you're looking at, and don't go lower than MERV 8. You want to get those particles, stop that stuff from getting in your system, but at the same time providing great airflow for your system. So a few little tips when you visit Walmart.
