Adding Markers in Descript

Learn how to add markers in Descript using the M key, right-click menu, or three-dots menu. Markers automatically become YouTube chapters when you publish directly from Descript, and you can jump between them using the table-of-contents button.
Markers in Descript are a way to internally organize and bookmark your Descript project. They also automatically become chapters in YouTube when you publish directly to YouTube from Descript. To add a marker to your project, simply find a place that you want to mark. Right here at the beginning of my project, I'm just going to put my cursor before the first scene and press the letter M. And you can now see that I have this marker highlighted in blue. And that's for me to type in. Whatever I want to call it, I'm just going to call it intro. And then I'm going to come down somewhere else. Like, let's say right here, I'm going to add a space just for internal organization purposes. I'm going to add one more line just to create a gap between the two paragraphs. And then I can come to these three dots. I can say add marker. Or I'm going to show you one other way. You can right click, hit insert end marker. Or a fourth way is to hit the pound key hashtag. So all three ways, all four ways can create a marker in descript. And then this one I'm just going to call tip number one on the scene thumbnails. I have my intro, I have the two unnamed markers, and then I have tip number one. And each time I click one, it scrolls to that spot in the project as well as I can click this thing in the top right, the jump to marker button that looks like a table of contents icon. I click it and each of my markers are buttons where I can click it and it'll scroll to that spot. And the last thing I'll show you is that when you publish these to YouTube, when you publish this video to YouTube with these markers, these become chapters in your YouTube video. I'm not going to show you the whole process. I made a separate video about publishing to YouTube that you can watch. But I'm going to show you the end result. Our YouTube video is now live. And here's what it looks like. Those markers automatically became timestamps, which became these chapters. And it's not a very good demonstration because I had 50 markers in the exact same spot. So I just recognized it as one chapter. But you get the idea of how this looks and how this is a very convenient way of streamlining your publishing process. If you like this, give it a thumbs up.
