Descript's Newest Upgrades: Speaker Re-Label + New Ignore Options

Descript version 85 adds speaker re-labeling so you can fix transcription mistakes on individual lines, and new ignore options to skip words or sections when editing transcripts. Guest members now have updated permissions for project collaboration.
Today, version 85. Let's talk about it. The first new improvement from version 85 is the ability to use the range tool to edit or add speaker labels. And so before, if I wanted to change a speaker, you know, I could do it right here, but it would change the whole thing. So now we get a little bit more granular control. So let's say that this thing is mistakenly all labeled as Samantha, but actually the last two sentences should be a different speaker. And then I get this pop up. And then notice there is a change here as well, that they've added text on the add layer before, it was just that plus button. So they're just making it a little bit more clear and explicit. But when you get this pop up, you come over to these three dots and then right here, the first one is change speaker, or we can see it's the hotkey is the AT sign. So on a US keyboard, that's shift and the number two. But I'm gonna hit change speaker and then it prompts me for the speaker. This looks familiar. I'm gonna change it to myself. And look at that. Now you can just granularly control who the speaker is by selecting the exact words that you want to turn into a different speaker. And the second Update from version 85 has to do with the ignore feature, the ignore icon. So let's say that I just added myself to this podcast, but I want to get rid of my first sentence here. So I select that first sentence or whatever sentence I want to get rid of. And notice our strikeout button. You can still click on it and it'll. It'll strike it out. Or in other words, ignore it. So it remains on my transcript, but it's gone from my timeline and let me highlight it again. Let's bring it up again. So what's new is this arrow next to it. And if you click on it, you get ignore media, which is the standard strikethrough. You can delete media which removes it from your transcript. You can replace it with a gap, which will delete it and replace it with silence or room tone. Or you can just remove it from your transcript and not from your timeline. So let's try out that last one. I'm going to click this sentence here. I'm going to come to the dropdown, I'm going to say remove from transcript. And now it shows up as word gap. These little icons here show that there's no. Typically indicate that there's no speaking right there. So basically, it untranscribed that portion without removing it from the timeline. So that could be useful if you take your transcript and you publish that as a blog, or you publish it elsewhere on the Internet, but you don't want it to show up in the transcript. And the last update for this very small version update and this is all straight off of feedback. Descript.com changelog all the change notes get put up here. The final update is that there are changes to the drive admins where they can change the access level of a guest member on a project. So drive admins can now choose to give guest members different levels of permission, can edit, can comment, or make owner. So that's it. A very small update today. And then of course we have the normal bug fixes. Nothing super major there, but I'll be back for version 86.
