A short YouTube demo showing Descript's new Video Message feature. The presenter demonstrates selecting camera/screen, choosing audio sources, capturing a screen region, automatic transcription and filler-word removal, adding markers, copying into projects, and publishing with visibility controls (public/unlisted/restricted). The presenter suggests this could replace Loom for their workflow.
Descript just released a new feature that may be a loom killer. It's called Video Message, and you access it by coming to the new button in the top right. Hit Video Message. You can select your camera or the screen and a camera to do a screen recording. As with all screen recordings in descript, you can choose which camera, you can choose whether to include computer audio or not, and which microphone you want to record to. And then you hit Start Recording and then you drag to select the part of the screen you want to capture and start recording. And there we go. And we can talk about whatever we want. We could use this to make a training video for employees. We could use this to record a walkthrough for friends or family. We could do anything we want. And this will give us. This will generate a shareable link that we can email, we can send in a message, we can post publicly. We can do whatever we want. So I'll show you that now I'm going to stop the recording and we get this view. We can title it Sample Video, we can preview it, and you can see it automatically transcribed it, just like descript always does. And it found a filler word. So it's prompting me to remove it, which I'm going to do. It's gone. I can add markers, can say Scene two, for example, and I can copy this whole thing into a new project. If I click this, it'll take me into a descript project where I can edit this video like normal, or I can copy it to my clipboard and I can add it to a project like that. There's this little gear icon where I can choose once I hit this publish button to make it public. I can make it unlisted, meaning only people I send the link to will have it. Or I can make it restricted, meaning only people who have access to my drive can see it. I can toggle whether to show the transcript or not, whether to allow comments on the page and open the webpage after publishing. And it automatically applied Studio sound. I can turn it, turn that on or off, but I'm gonna go ahead and make this unlisted and I'm gonna hit publish. And it opened in my browser just like this. And it's gonna take a while to process, or it shouldn't take too long cause it's a small file. But this is the link where we could send this to our friends and family or our employees or whoever we want to see this video and they'd be able to access it. So pretty cool. I think this is going to replace Loom for me.
