How to Re-Transcribe (Fix Wrong Language and Inaccuracies)

Fix a transcription in Descript by opening Media Bin, finding your file, and clicking the three-dot menu to choose Retranscribe. Pick the right language from 23 options, or change your default in Settings so Descript asks you next time.
You may find yourself needing to retranscribe a file in Descript, either because, one, you selected the wrong language when you first imported it or recorded it, or it could be because something went wrong with the transcription. The AI hallucinates, weird things happen. It makes mistakes. In either case, there is an easy way to retranscribe a file, and it only takes a few clicks. Here's a project I recorded in Spanish, but I accidentally set the transcription language to English. As you can see, it's nonsense on the transcription. But no worries, we can fix this. So what we're going to do is find the file by going to the Media Bin. We're going to find the one that I recorded, which I believe is this one Rode NT USB mini. And I'm going to click these three dots and right here it says retranscribe. So I'm just going to click on that and then I get the box asking me which language I want to transcribe to. And this is where I didn't set it to the proper language. It was in English, but I want it to be Spanish, so I'll scroll down. There's 23 languages available in Descript, so you can choose any of those. But of course, this one is Spanish, so click on that. And I could label the speaker, but I'm just going to hit done. And now you can see it is retranscribing and it's already 50% done. And down here at the bottom, there's a little toast that says, want to change default transcription preferences? And I'll go ahead and show you that real quick. While it's transcribing, I'll hit Open Settings. And right here is the default. The very second thing under the General tab is Default Transcription Language. And if you always are switching languages, then you can have it always ask you before transcribing the one below that. You can toggle that on or off. But if you're only ever recording in one language or the language that you predominantly use, then you can set that here. And that's it. And now we can see our transcription's almost done. And there it is. Now it is in Spanish and it's looking a lot better, a lot more sensible.
