Step-by-step guide to uploading subtitle files to YouTube through Studio. Open Content, edit your video, go to Subtitles, add a language, upload your .srt or .vtt file, and publish. YouTube supports 16+ subtitle file types.
From inside of YouTube Studio, find the video that you want to add the subtitles to. So go to content. Find the video that you're going to add these subtitles to. Click on the pencil icon and then from here on the left side, click on subtitles. And here are your video subtitles. Click Add language. Find the language of your subtitles. I'm just going to do English and then over here there's going to be a little pencil next to the language that you added or that you want to add subtitles for. And actually these, the bottom ones are automatic captions, so I'm not going to worry about those. I'm going to do the one that I just added, which was just the plain English. I'm going to come to add. I'm going to say upload file with timing so that it'll be synced up with your voice, hit continue. And then it's going to do a browse through your computer. And I have a SRT file. But you can add any type of subtitle file that your video editing software allows you to download. Hit open, and there it is. There are my subtitles. And as soon as you hit publish, that is now added to your video. Now, as for what type of files are supported, you have over 16 different file types. So a very common one is SRT or vtt. And this is from Google's help page. I'll leave a link to this in the show notes.
