Removing Templates - Descript Tutorial

This is a YouTube video titled "Removing Templates - Descript Tutorial" created in April 2024. The content is a tutorial explaining how to remove templates in the Descript video editing software, detailing the process of undoing applied templates, deleting layers, and removing animations. The speaker provides step-by-step instructions and tips for managing templates within the project timeline.
There is no remove template, button or feature. That's why I always encourage students. I always explain templates as a container of layers. So to remove a template that you've applied, you'll have to remove each of the layers that you have added. Or if it's a template that affects a layout, you'll need to undo those layouts. So I'll show you a few options for doing that in this video. So here's our project. It's just empty as of now. But if I come into my templates button, my template section and I apply one of my templates, I'm just going to pick this one right here. And if I look at my timeline, I can see that that template I applied is three layers. There's two. What do we have here? A title layer, a shape and a sound. So three separate layers. Now, the easiest way, if I applied this and it's the wrong template, I realize I made a mistake. The obvious first solution is to undo it. Command Z on a Mac computer, control Z on a Windows, or you can go to edit and undo. All three of those methods work and watch what happens when I undo it. It's gone. So the template is. It's not applying as three separate layers in the sense that it's three separate distinct actions where you have to undo each action by pressing undo three times. You just press it once and it undo undoes that template altogether. But that's because I hadn't done anything else. Had I made any other changes, undo would have done the immediately prior action again. That's if you make like a mistake, you immediately realize it and you undo it. If we go back to our templates and let's apply, let's apply the same one. I'm going to apply the one that's called website popup and I'll show my timeline again. I have the same three layers and let's say I've made some adjustments. I've, you know, I've changed the length of these. I've changed the fade, I've done a few things. So if I undo now, it's just gonna undo that last action. And I don't wanna just keep clicking undo. I. The option here is to just delete each individual layer. And so I just select each one and delete it. And sorry if this is obvious, but there is no just delete template button. These are your options. And then the last type of template templates are either adding layers to your project or they're applying a layout to your project. For example, I'll do this one right here. This one called screen Record zoom, 10% middle. If I apply it, it's going to apply a zoom out my website to my video. So this is a template that affects the layout. I didn't add any layers, but you can see that gray line right there that's telling me that I added an animation. And there's the animation keyframes. I'll zoom in a little bit here. These two rectangles, that's the starting keyframe of this animation and the ending keyframe of this animation. So the way to do this again, I can click undo, but the easiest way is to just delete this animation, which I can do with it selected. I can press delete on my keyboard or I can come down to the animation and press this minus button. And now it's gone and that template is effectively deleted. And that was a little trickier to realize what you have applied as compared to when it's applying layers. But basically you're gonna have to just tweak it until you get back to the baseline, until you get back to the video as it was before you applied that template. So that is it. That's how you remove a template in description.
