Setup the Descript Zoom integration

Ross Zeiger shows how to connect Zoom to Descript and import cloud recordings for editing. The integration only works with Zoom cloud recordings, not local files, and your Zoom settings for separate audio tracks and view type determine how many files get imported. Once imported, videos are automatically transcribed and ready to edit.

Since roughly March of 2020, Zoom is used by everybody and for everything. But there's a problem. Zoom videos are kind of boring. So wouldn't it be great if you could edit them? Well, you can. Introducing the Descript integration with Zoom. You can bring your Zoom recordings into Descript and edit them just like any other video project. So in this video, I'm going to show you how to set up that integration and start editing your Zoom recordings from anywhere inside of Descript, whether it's in a project or in this view. Come up to the top left and go to your settings. Click on that, and we're going to change to the tab on the left side that says Connected Apps. Click on that, and you can see here the Zoom settings. It says account not connected. So what we need to do is click on Connect to Zoom. Click on that and it opens up a login. So go ahead, sign into your Zoom account, and you get this page that said Descript would like permission to, and then everything that it needs to do. You come down to the bottom, you don't need to select this, and hit Allow. And it says connecting to Zoom, and now it says account connected. So We'll go back to Descript. I'll open up a brand new project, make a video project. And right here, there's an import from Zoom button. This is visible on the first page of every blank project. So you click on that and it says, select a Zoom recording to import. And this is a list of all of my Zoom recordings and notice there's only one. And this brings up an important point. This only works with cloud recording, so you have to record to your Zoom account cloud recording. It won't work with the local recordings. So you find the cloud recording you want to import, you select it and click import, and then it says importing your files from Zoom. And notice it says importing 2 files, even though I only selected 1 video. You can actually, in the settings of your Zoom account, choose what gets recorded with your cloud recordings. You can have separate audio for each participant. You can have separate video for each participant. You can have gallery view, speaker view, all these different options so you can customize how it comes in to Descript. If you wanna go into those kind of details, I highly recommend check out my Descript Made Easy course, link below in the description. But for now, just notice that it has brought in my video. And it's already transcribed it. And from here I can edit it just like any other video project. Now, if I already have an existing project like this, I'm not starting from scratch, then the process is a little different than what I just showed you. So what we're going to do in this case is come over to the project button in the top right, make sure that's toggled open, come down to files, hit the plus button, import, and we're gonna select the Zoom option. And once I click on that, it opens up the same dialogue box as before. I can select the Zoom cloud recording that I wanna bring in, and I hit import, and it's gonna import that project. Once again, your Zoom videos are now in Descript, but what do you do with them? You need to edit them. So check out this video next, where I take you from start to finish through an entire Descript project.
