A short, single-speaker walkthrough describing Descript’s Version 74 release (October 2). The speaker demonstrates workspace visual updates (thumbnail and grid views), new ignored-text controls (undo/delete on hover), automatic scene-duration extension when adding longer layers, a fix for a studio-sound echo that occurred when reducing intensity below 100%, other small fixes (endpoints, word-gap adjustments), and improved color consistency between editor and published exports.

Version 74
October 2
A studio-sound echo that occurred when Studio Sound intensity was reduced below 100%
It's October 2nd and we have version 74 of descript. Today. We mostly have some visual updates. We have the difference in how our drive looks. Let me bring up my workspace here. You now have the option. First of all, if you see this top video in my workspace, there is a small thumbnail there, whereas, and that's just because I've opened it all the rest of these, you just see that little video camera icon. Those thumbnails have not been set yet, but I'm going to show you how to do that. So we have that and then if I hover over it, you can see that it gives me that, that little pop up thumbnail so I can see what project that is. But we also, up until now we've only had this list view to see our projects. Now in the top right there is a grid option. So if we click that, we get the same thing but bigger, we get our thumbnail. And then all the rest are just video cameras as of now, because I haven't set them yet. But if I open one up, for example, this one, what I can do is I can right click any of these scene thumbnails on the left, like this first one, I can right click it and hit set project thumbnail and nothing happens within my project. But when I go back to my workspace view, look at that, there is my thumbnail for that project. So pretty cool little quality of life thing there. The next one is flexible options for ignored text. So now when you ignore a section of text, it'll. When you hover your mouse over it, there's an option that'll pop up to undo it or to delete it entirely if that's what you want to do. So pretty cool. Just another little quick way to get around. And then when you're adding a new layer, it'll now automatically extend the duration of the scene when that layer is longer than the current scene length. We also got a fix for the studio sound echo. I don't know if you've ever run into this. I certainly have where when you apply studio sound and you reduce the intensity below a hundred percent, you get an echo effect. They have fixed that. So I think a lot of people are going to be happy about that because that was a big problem. There was a couple other little fixes related to endpoints, word gap adjustments. And then the final thing that they have here on the list is the color consistency. Before you would see one thing on your canvas in your editor. And then when you export or publish your video, your colors are a little bit different. So they're saying that they fixed that where that mismatch is now corrected, and you're going to get a more consistent color between editing and publishing. That is version 74.
