You need to see this new layout feature!

Descript's new Remix feature lets you create custom Layout Packs by remixing existing layouts, changing fonts, colors, and weights, then sharing them privately or publicly. The presenter walks through the full process and mentions early reliability issues to watch for.
And we're live. So I'm making this very last minute because I was just going about doing some creating of layouts in descript and I noticed a brand new feature that they released in one second here. Let me just make sure the live stream is good. Go ahead and let me know in the comments if there's any issues. Let me see here. Got a few people coming on. Okay, great. So, yeah, the feature that I just discovered is, it's called Remix and let me show you how it works. And I am so excited to make this because layouts is like one of the top things I know when I make a layout video on this channel, people love that. They go, it's. They do better than anything else. So people love layouts and they're super, super useful for speeding up your editing and making your edits more consistent. So to do this feature that, and the reason I'm making this too is descript just quietly rolled it out. It wasn't like announced on their log or anything. So to make it from the Layouts Pack tab, you come to the button that says New Layout Pack and right there is the new option, it says Remix Gallery Layout Pack. And when you click on that, it opens up this page. And what you can do with this is you can choose one of descript's existing layout packs. For example, there one that's just called descript. It has a black background, their light one that is the same thing, same fonts, all the same layouts, but with a white background and black text. And they also have. Let me just check my audio layout packs, for example. Oh, that sounds bad. Let me switch my mic here properties. Let me know in the chat if. If you can hear me. Okay, if everything sounds fine. Otherwise I won't waste too much time on this if it's. If everything's good. But why is that not the right microphone? Well, anyways, we'll push on. So yeah, those are the different layout packs you got there. And you can choose one of these as a starting point. And this is what's going to get edited into your remixed layout pack. For example, if I click on descript Light, then I can choose a primary text color. A. Okay, thank you. Thanks for letting me know. Primary text color, accent text and background. And so I can switch it here. Right now it's black by default. I can make it red accent color, I can make it yellow, whatever. This isn't going to look great, but you'll at least get the idea. And then background I can change to blue. And then I can source through my font library as well as if you click on these little effect settings here, you can upload from your drive, from Google Fonts, et cetera. And I am having issues with that. It's not loading like it does when you're inside of an actual project. So be aware that you may not have that capability, but you at least have descript built in fonts there for now. And then you can change the weight if it's all caps or not. You can do that. And then as well as. So that was all for the title. And then you can set the subtitle or the text so the paragraph text standard. So yeah, you can get those customized to your brand, fonts and colors, sizes, etc. And then you give it a name. So I'll call this Test Remix Pack. And as always, you can either make it private, meaning only you can see it share with Drive, meaning you plus any editors that have seats in your drive can see it and share publicly, which means that you could share it with the entire Internet like some of my layouts are. So that's your options there. And then you hit Create Layout Pack. And it does take a couple minutes here and I did have it fail the first time I tried to do this. So be aware that this is a brand new feature and that comes with the territory. So there we go. Layout Pack created tells me that in the bottom right, as soon as you get that, that little check, then you can sit Save Layout Pack. And I think I saved it into my drive. Right. So Test Remix Pack. There it is. So I click on it and it opens up and here's what it did. So most of these are. There's no differences here. Like all those things that you saw me customize, the fonts, the colors, those don't apply in the camera view because there's no fonts. But if I go to one that is, for example, one of these title ones. There we go. So if you remember, I set it to a red font with a blue background and the Khalees font. So there we go. And so this is what it looks like and it looks horrible. You would never want to use red on blue like that. You can barely read it. But you get the idea. Like that could have been Montserrat. It could have been Outfit is the font that I use black on white, whatever colors I could have set there. And the amazing thing is it just made 122 layouts for me with my brands, fonts, colors, etc. And then the red, you can See, it changed, for example, the gradient, which is black by default. It changed that to this red color. And let's just take a look at a couple more examples and if you have any questions about this, let me know in the chat about how it works. But I mean it's pretty dead simple like as far as how to create it. And yeah, so it's amazing. This is going to put my. The layout creation part of my business, make it obsolete because I used to spend a lot of time making layouts for clients. And yeah, also you have the social, so you got clips where you got these different camera views here that would apply to a sequence if you have multiple cameras. And it's got the text that I specified, the font with the colors that I told it to Web app. So the question in the chat is, is it appearing in the app rather than the web app? This is the web app. So maybe if you're not. Are you not seeing it? Is that the problem? I haven't looked on the regular app. Let me take a look at that. That is a good point. No, I'm seeing it there as well. Here is the. This is my desktop app and if I go to the layout pack, it is right there. One other thing to check. Is this a. No, it's not a Labs feature. The Labs features are the beta features that aren't rolled out to everyone yet, but it's not one of those. And on that note, while we're here talking, I got a few more minutes. There's this mobile upload option. I made a video on YouTube for members of the channel, not for the general public, but if you want to check that out, you can consider becoming a member of the channel. Would love to have you. And this feature called Mobile Upload, what it does is it generates a QR code that you can scan and upload files, photos or videos or anything. Could be sound files as well, directly from your mobile phone to descript to your descript project to be used for editing. So it bypasses the whole need to download something and then upload it to descript. Pretty handy, but currently in beta. So in order to use that you'll have to toggle it on here in your settings. Okay, what else? So yeah, that's if you've used these descript layout packs before and you know how they're broken down. So for example, there's a presentation category which inside of the scenes or the layout view here shows up this new cohort based crash course I'm calling it. It's four days Monday through Friday or Monday through Thursday, rather, starting August 4th. And the link is in the description of this live stream. So check that out if that's of interest. There's more information on this landing page. And basically, for one hour every morning for four days, we're going to get on a zoom call. And then the idea is this is for complete beginners. So if you're watching this right now, chances are, and you're using layouts, chances are this would probably be too basic for you. But I do at least want to make you aware of this. It's something new that I'm trying. All right, thanks. For those who hopped on this impromptu live stream, it's great to have you see.
