This is a YouTube video titled "When the Brain Falls Out of Balance, So Does Everything Else! #neurofeedback #mentalwellness" containing an educational talk about neuroplasticity and brainwave dysregulation. The speaker explains how the brain changes through learning and how stress, injury, and other factors can disrupt brain function, with a mention of technology aiding brain regulation. The content is informative and focused on mental wellness and neuroscience concepts.
The term neuroplasticity is something that you hear more and more about, as well as dysregulation. And I want to explain what neuroplasticity is. It's the fact that our brain does actually change as we learn things or as we grow or if we have an impact to the brain. The brain is creating new neural pathways, new communication pathways in there. Every time we learn something new, think about when you learn to ride a bike or write with a pencil. You've practiced and practiced and practiced, and pretty soon you're doing it without even thinking about it. That's neuroplasticity. There are new patterns and new pathways created in your brain when you learn things. Now, what happens when that gets disrupted, or dysregulated, we call it? And why would it get dysregulated? Stress can cause brainwave dysregulation. Any type of a bump to the head can cause brainwave dysregulation. Environmental toxins, illnesses, and nutritional deficiencies can cause the brain to actually become dysregulated and not be able to produce the proper patterns at the right time. That also is a type of neuroplasticity, but in a more negative way. Fortunately, we can use technology to actually help the brain better regulate.
