This webinar (presented by Dr. Dawn‑Elise Snipes) teaches clinicians how to explain, differentiate, and teach defense mechanisms versus coping skills to clients. It defines many common defenses (e.g., denial, repression, avoidance, sublimation, dissociation, projection, displacement, splitting) and shows how they can be protective short‑term but harmful if overused; it then presents coping frameworks (ABC(DE), radical acceptance, psychological flexibility) and concrete teaching activities (draw‑a‑card, role‑plays, TV‑examples homework, board game, journaling, emotion emergency cards) for individual and group therapy.
