In this candid monologue, the speaker—an entrepreneur who has grown a business from around £1 million to aiming for £10 million—explores the intense pressures of scaling. He describes feeling unable to accept competitors gaining more opportunities, which drives him to adopt a ‘be everywhere’ mindset: constant networking, sales proposals, and relentless marketing. He recounts telling his wife about leaving his current venture to launch a new brand, Pareto, and her concern that he would go ‘all‑in.’ The speaker admits that for him, traditional work‑life balance isn’t an option; instead, he believes accelerating growth requires an uncompromising grind and consistently outperforming rivals.

If you're running a business that's doing a million quid and you've started and you're getting to a million quid, but you're really struggling to go from like a million to 10 million, which many people do struggle with that growth piece. Yeah. I just couldn't deal with this idea that my competitors were out there getting more opportunities than I was. So for me, it was about being everywhere and creating this brand that Andrew was almost like 10 people at the same time. People used to say to me, oh, you're so lucky being an entrepreneur. You can have a lay-in on a Tuesday. I was like, well, you can have a lay-in on a Tuesday, but then you're not out meeting people, networking, writing sales proposals, trying to find new marketing ideas and things. So for me, I just couldn't let it go. And actually, when I told my wife I was going to leave the business and start Pareto, she wasn't that keen on the idea. Not because she didn't want me to do it, because she knew that I would go all in. And we've been together nearly 10 years at that stage. Yeah. So I think, like, I have those tendencies to just do it. And, like, balance for me just isn't an option. But if you want to really accelerate growth and you want to take every opportunity that's available within the sector you're in, for me, you just have to absolutely fucking grind. And I mean, like, every time consistently outperforming everybody else.
