Student loan borrowers, you may have just won not once but twice in court this week. Here's what all of this will mean for your money. So there's a lawsuit called Sweet v. McMahon. It's a $6 billion settlement for people whose schools lied to them about job placement, about career prospects, also about their accreditation. You name it, they lied about it. There's nearly 170,000 people who had their forgiveness applications sitting unprocessed past the legal deadline of January 28th. So the government tried to delay that relief by a whole nother year and a half, and the court was like, no, no, no, no, no, not happening. So twice. And the Supreme Court shut down the schools that were trying to block the whole settlement entirely. This is a massive, massive win. Now here's how you actually figure out if this is you. Number 1, check your email, okay, including your spam and trash folders as well. Look for any message from noreply@studentaid.gov. That's how the Education Department has been sending decisions to people who, um, will get their loans forgiven. Number 2, ask yourself, did you already submit a borrower defense application between June 23rd and November 15th 2022. Oh, that's years ago, right? And did your school have a history of misconduct, especially for-profit schools that made super big promises that they did not keep? Okay, so if your application was not decided by January 28th, 2026, you are likely entitled to full relief. And one important warning: if anyone contacts you, obviously offering to help you get your loans forgiven, faster for free— for a fee, just know that this is obviously a scam, right? So the FTC has confirmed that nobody can move you up in the line, so don't pay anyone ever, honestly, for that. So here's the entire timeline. Essentially, you should receive a notice from the Education Department by March 29th of this year confirming your eligibility. I've actually seen some people posting that they've logged into their accounts and literally already seen that they were discharged. So within a year receiving that, you should get your loan discharged or a refund or something. Sooner than later. So share this with someone carrying student loan debt right now. They need to see this. I am Dominique Broadway, first-gen millionaire who has helped over 600,000 people build wealth, but that is not enough because hopefully you are next.
