In this concise business‑mentoring video, Donna Brown addresses entrepreneurs who feel overwhelmed by competition and unheard. She argues that standing out is simpler than typical branding exercises: bring your whole authentic self into your business. Using networking as a concrete example, she explains that shifting the mindset from a rigid, transactional approach to one of genuine friendship eliminates the fake, manipulative feeling often associated with client acquisition. By being authentic, you become a light that naturally attracts others, and you position your clients as the heroes of your business narrative—while you remain the hero of your own story. Hi, I'm Donna Brown. I'm a business mentor and I help entrepreneurs create powerful, profitable, world-changing business visions, and together we create the concrete step-by-step roadmap to make them a reality. Today I'd like to talk about what do you do when you feel like the competition is swallowing you up and nobody's listening to you. We've all done the branding exercises, the find your voice exercises, And gone through all the processes to figure out who we are, what we should sound like, and what we should be saying. But the truth of the matter is, it's a lot simpler than you think. If you can bring yourself, really your whole self, to your business. To give you an example of what it means to show up as your authentic self, let's talk about networking. Now, when we think about networking, we kind of get all Rigid and a little bit businessy. And should I talk to this person? Can they help me? Can they not help me? Are they useful to my business? And everything feels kind of weird and fake. A very good friend and mentor said that that was always a problem for her until she realized that what she really wanted to do was make friends. And by making friends, all that fakeness, all the sort of manipulative feeling that you can get from sort of client acquisition and all these sort of tactics and strategies to get people to sign up and all that stuff melts away and you can really just be yourself, just show up in the most authentic way possible, create relationships and make friends. So just to recap, it's really be the light, shine for who you are in the most authentic and natural way possible, make friends, not just clients and am I going to make money from them, are they going to buy from me. And make them the hero of your business. You are the hero of your story, but they're the hero of your business. If you'd like to dive deeper into this, hop on over to donnabrown.com, and I have something very special waiting for you there.
