A short personal anecdote by Cynthia James about a career experience during a company merger. After proposing a plan to senior leadership she was reassigned to an unrelated department; rather than a setback, she reframed the move as an opportunity to learn a new skill that later expanded her professional offering.
Cynthia james.cynthiajames.net so the big mistake I had there was a merger in our company and I had been training people inside the company and the chairman of the board called me into his office and said, what do you want to do? And I was so excited. I gave him this whole big proposal and I was so excited. And three days later, human resources called me in and said, we're moving you to this department. And it had nothing to do with anything I was doing. And so I was really questioning myself about why did I say it wrong, what was wrong with the proposal. But what happened is it actually they put me in a department where I learned a new skill that when I left that organization, I coupled it with my training and it became more expanded. And so it wasn't really a mistake. What it was was me surrendering to the path that I was given in that moment and accepting a new learning.
