Gordon Davidson recounts his biggest business mistake: partnering with a visionary founder of a Thin Film Solar company who had strong vision and communication skills but lacked organizational and management competence. The venture failed, causing financial loss and difficult situations with friends who invested. From this experience Davidson learned to study deeper human factors (including the subconscious), be cautious, and vet potential partners over long periods before making major commitments.
Hello, this is Gordon Davidson and our website is www.visionarylead.org. also thepracticalvisionary.org. so my biggest mistake was to become involved with someone who I was very inspired by the vision that they were, they had for starting a company. It was Thin Film Solar company and actually creating solar panels at a very cheap price and really would ramp up the whole solar possibilities for the world. This person was a tremendous visionary, was very articulate, knew a lot about business and could talk a wonderful vision and game. But when it came time to actually organize, bring things into form and actually create the business and work with the people and manage it, he was just not able to do so. He was just not competent in those levels. So I could see certain people learned to do certain things very good in some areas, but not in others. As a result, it was a disaster. We lost money, we had friends invested. It was a very difficult situation. So what I learned from that was that you really have to work with people at a very deep level. And as a result I started studying, learning about what the subconscious of the human being is all about, what is really present there at these deeper levels and how that functions on a day to day basis and how parts of people can come into play at certain times and at other times they're dormant. So I've learned to be extraordinarily careful about who I work with, who I partner with, and just be very, very cautious and get to know people over a long period of time before I make any deep commitments to getting involved with them. And that's worked very well and saved me from future difficulties along those lines.
