Most people try to look younger from the outside. You know, creams, surgeries, botox, lotions. But really the secret to a true youthful appearance starts on the inside. In this video, I'll show you how hidden foods and habits can actually accelerate aging and the science backed ways that you can reverse it. So your skin, your energy, your health all look vibrant and feel years younger. So, so let's dive in. By the way, I'm Dr. Ashley. I'm a PhD nutritionist, I'm a registered dietitian, I'm the owner and founder of PhD Weight Loss and Nutrition. And my goal with this channel is to give you the information you need so that you can create true, sustainable, positive change in your own life. So let's dive in to how to look younger from the inside out. Number one is to cut out age forming foods. So Ages stuff stands for advanced glycation end products. And these ages are formed in your body when sugar binds to protein and literally ages your cells. It's a good name for these molecules. So the deal is, is if your blood sugar is chronically elevated, you've got sugar going around in your bloodstream at all given periods during the day. This sugar now has more time to bind to protein. These two molecules like to stick together and they form a new molecule called these ages. They damage body cells, they damage tissue. Over time I want you to think faster aging, more wrinkles, increased risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease. When you think about the types of foods that increase your risk of your body forming these types of molecules, I want you to think of sugar containing products, and I mean sugar in all its varied forms. So this could be sugar sweetened beverages, soda, juice, energy drinks that you might think are healthy flavor, sweetened fruit flav, yogurts, high sugar protein bars, cereal with skim milk and bananas, sandwiches with chips and cookies, pasta with breadsticks, alcohol, barbecue sauces, fried foods, processed foods. All of these foods are going to be wrinkle accelerators because of these end products that they result in. So instead what you want to do is swap these products out for whole food nutrient dense options that I'll talk about later in this video. You've likely been hearing a lot about these. These are the type of fats that increase our omega 6 levels. And we know that omega 6s increase inflammation, which increases the speed at which we age and create wrinkles and create just degradation in the body. So when I talk about processed seed oils, I mean canola, soybeans, safflower, sunflower, vegetable oils, corn oil, peanut oils included. These guys are just pretty darn unstable fats. And they oxidize when we cook them, are consuming basically rancid oils, and it just damages the body from the inside out. Instead, replace these oils with fats that are going to be more stable at high heat. This means that you can cook with them at a higher temperature and they're not going to oxidize. These are like avocado oil is one of my favorites. I like tallow coconut oil. You can also cook with ghee, which is clarified butter. I like to cook with butter if it's at a lower temperature. And then I really like to use extra virgin olive oil during cold use, like for a salad dressing. Now, if you're confused a bit by the dietary fats, what fats are healthier, what fats to use, at what temperature, and for what purpose, then just go into the description and I'll include a link to my free guide on dietary fats, what to use and when. Number three is to boost your antioxidants. So when we have a lot of oxidative stress in the body, when we are producing a lot of these advanced glycation end products because of how we eat, if we have a stressful lifestyle, then the oxidation in your body that oxidative stress is going to result in the production of free radicals. I want you to think of free radicals like the bad guys and they go in and they damage our organs, they damage our skin. It makes you look a lot older, faster when you have a lot of oxidative stress. Now, I alluded to lifestyle habits. I'm talking about if you don't exercise enough or if you exercise a lot by chronic cardio. So running many miles, cycling many miles, doing a lot of endurance activity, if you check out the athletes who do a lot of endurance type of workouts, they're going to look older than they really are because of this oxidative stress. If you're stressed a lot, if you eat a lot of sugar, if you smoke all of these cause increased oxidative distress which results in more free radicals. So what can you do? Well, you can consume more antioxidants because I want you to imagine the antioxidants go into the body, sequester these free radicals and prevent them or stop them, or reduce them from causing as much damage as they otherwise would. So the best way to boost them naturally is by eating your colorful veggies. Colorful fruits like berries have a lot of antioxidants, more fiber, less sugar. Grass fed meats are a healthy source to reduce oxidative stress load in your body. Cruciferous veggies, I'm talking like broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, cabbage, if you like them, they trigger the body to make more antioxidants and repair damage from within. Taking a really nice form of vitamin C can be helpful antioxidants and how they work in the body to reduce oxidative stress and the free radical load we create when we're not living optimally. Step number four is to support autophagy through fasting and movement. Autophagy is basically your body's naturally recycling system. It cleans up damaged cells, it creates new ones, it keeps your skin vibrant and it helps to keep your energy much more stable. You can do this by fasting, by getting really good quality sleep, by drinking good water and by exercising in the right way of these processes help to support autophagy and just help your body stay youthful at the cellular level. And step number five is to nourish your body with skin supportive nutrients. You can think vitamin A and I mean specific vitamin A from animal sources. So you can get vitamin A from the egg yolk. You can get vitamin A if you're open to eating organ meats, specifically liver. Now I mentioned vitamin A coming from animal products because a lot of us don't have the ability to convert beta carot into the active form of vitamin A of which we would get from these organ meats, that we would get from the egg yolks. So a lot of us think, oh my gosh, well you can get vitamin A from carrots, from bell peppers, colorful veggies, this is true. But again, a lot of us can't get this beta carotene into the active form of vitamin A that our skin really needs. So if you're open to eating the whole egg, getting the egg yolk, eating some organ meats, then you're going to get that quality vitamin A that actually helps the skin. Omega 3 is of nutrient that is really supportive of a healthy skin vibrant look, you can get omega 3s from fish. Eating fish about two to three times a week would be a really great goal. Sardines actually mackerel are really good sources of Omega 3 without a lot of mercury in it. Otherwise whitefish salmon is also a really great source. If you don't love fish or you don't consume much of it, I would suggest taking an omega 3 supplement or cod liver oil. I'm a big fan of because cod liver oil naturally comes with vitamin D and vitamin the specific type that our body can utilize without needing to convert it.
