June 1st Global Running Day

Dr. Dave encourages you to move on Global Running Day, June 1st. Start with a walk-run approach: 10 seconds walking, 30 seconds running. Wear fitted shoes, listen to your body, and ease back in if you've been sedentary.

Hey, good morning everyone! It's Dr. Dave. Just came back from a nice run on a crisp May morning, starting my day out hoping for some great experiences today. I hope you are too. I was out running this morning and I thought I'd like to share with you guys that on June 1st it's Global Running Day. And for an individual who's been running probably more days out of my life than I haven't run, it's kind of an exciting thing. And it's actually not very well known, especially here in Canada. I want to encourage you to get out. Maybe running isn't something you want to do. I tell people I run and I get comments back like, "Oh, I couldn't run to save my life." Hopefully that's not true. If we're able to preserve that ability to run for as long as possible in our life, even though we may not do it every day as exercise, if we preserve the ability to run if we needed to, I think it's a good indicator of a high level of health, alright? So on June 1st, get out, walk, walk, run. Jog around the block, support the runners in your area, cheer them on, and make fitness a part of your life. Maybe it'll be something that'll trigger a trend for those of us who maybe aren't as active as we used to be. You know, in North America there's some challenges with what we do every day. We lead sedentary lives, we work at computers, we drive a lot, and we try to fit in that fitness. But, you know, even from school age, where now there's less emphasis on activity and sports and gym class, we have to preserve this idea of of motion in our lives so that we can drive good clean air, water, and food into ourselves so we can avoid illness and disease. And even though it's Global Running Day and maybe not everybody loves running, the concept behind that ability to preserve the idea of running is really good. So, you know, someone always asks like, what are— how do I do it? Like, what do I need to be aware of when I run? And it's probably a long conversation, but, you know, make sure you have the right equipment, the right shoes for whatever activity you're doing. Don't let them get too old. Make sure someone helps fit those on you so they're the right ones for you. Listen to your body when you're out there, get some feedback, make sure you're doing it with good technique, relaxed but tall. Don't take your computer posture out for the run. And last but not least, just make sure you ease into anything new, especially if you haven't done it for a while or it's a different activity. Take your time with running. The Running Room has a great approach with the walk-run, so they might do 10 seconds walking, 30 seconds running. And that's an effective way to get back into it. Alright, if you have any questions, you can always reach out through the website, Toronto Chiropractor, chiropractorintoronto.ca, and happy to answer any questions you have about your health, wellness, and even running. It would be a pleasure. Otherwise, June 1st, Global Running Day, get out there and run. I might see you on the streets.
