In this October‑themed public‑health video, Dr. David Koivuranta (Dr. Dave) outlines the liver’s essential functions—filtering toxins, producing digestive enzymes, supporting blood and hormones—and explains why occasional liver support may be beneficial. He describes the concept of liver “cleansing” as giving the organ a break, especially when cells are exposed to a toxic or stressful environment. The doctor discusses herbal formulations that target two detox phases: releasing toxins from liver cells and facilitating their removal from the body, noting that concentrated supplements are needed to deliver effective doses. He stresses that any detox approach must be pure, correctly dosed, and gentle, avoiding harsh side‑effects. Finally, he invites viewers to contact his clinic or Facebook page for personalized, gentle detox guidance, especially during Liver Health Month and the Halloween season.

Hey everyone, it's Dr. Dave. Hopefully you're all doing well, enjoying yourselves, and having a great October, creating great experiences in your life. You know, October is International Liver Health Month, I believe, or at least North American Liver Health Month. And liver, many people know, is one of your major organs, and it has a number of important jobs in the body. And one of the biggest ones is it filters. Impurities and different toxins from the environment, from your food, things that you're exposed to, out of your body. It also creates some of your digestive enzymes, it works with your blood, helps with the hormones. So it has a lot of different functions, but one of the main things is it's the detoxifying organ. Now sometimes that organ, they say, needs itself to be cleaned, almost like the filter in your furnace. Sometimes it's doing its job and it can keep doing its job, but sometimes it needs a little bit of help to get cleaned out. So we can replace the furnace in the— or the filter in your furnace, but we can't replace the liver in your body. So for a long time, especially in Eastern medicine, there's been a lot of ability to try and cleanse or help your liver get rid of some of the impurities that it gets exposed to while it's trying to keep you healthy. And a lot of people are trying to do this with juice cleanses, by improving their diet, And every day your liver is taking care of itself and the cells, the little parts that make up your liver, are getting replaced. And if they do that and they come into a good environment, then that liver is going to stay functional and it's going to take care of you for a long time. But if those cells are getting replaced and they're coming into a bad environment, a sick environment, or an environment that's overwhelming, some research supports that it's good to give your liver a break and even help boost its ability to clean itself out so it can keep doing its job. And that's the basis behind a lot of these detoxes or cleanses. Now there are some herbal formulations that when properly made and they affect two stages, not only the releasing and the capturing of the toxins in your body or your liver, but also making sure that they get taken out of the body. And if these two phases are addressed, that it could be good for you. It's very hard to do though with food, and the reason is that in order to get enough of those helpful components into your body so they have a therapeutic effect, you'd have to consume a large amount of the food sources that have those nutrients that would help with that process. So what they've done is they've taken them and they've extracted the active components and concentrated them and put them into a supplement that you can usually get to help with that detox and cleanse. Now, like everything else, you want to ensure that whatever you do or whatever you try with that process is very pure, that it's right potency, and that it's actually going to do what it's designed to do. And it should never be harsh. It should never make you feel unwell. But there are some good steps out there to do that. So just want to share that message for Liver Health Month in October. You know, Halloween is coming up and you might have a sweet tooth. And so it wouldn't be a bad idea now, or especially right after, to just help your body out with some of the toxins we get exposed to, not just with our diet, but even from our environment, the air that we breathe, the cities that we live in, but also internally, our own level of stress, the physiology our body accomplishes every day, and what it carries out to just stay alive can create toxins and byproducts that sometimes our body has a hard time getting rid of, and that every once in a while it's a good idea to give it some support. Alright, so I know you've heard a lot about detox and cleanse.
