Turn the power on...

Dr. David Koivuranta explains how chiropractic adjustments balance nerve signaling in the body. Too much irritation causes pain and overactivity; too little causes weakness. The goal is to restore optimal neural function, like turning a lightbulb to the right brightness.

Hello everyone, it's Dr. Dave. Hopefully you're all enjoying your day and you're out there creating those great experiences. You know, sometimes after an adjustment we kind of comment to people that now their power is on, and people kind of find that interesting, and it can be taken in many different ways. But one of the effects that chiropractic has, and one of the most important effects, is that it actually changes the habits and patterns in your body by creating an influence on your nervous system. Sometimes this is one of the most important things we try to share with people because we're often seen as a back doctor, a neck doctor, or a joint doctor. We do work on those things, especially those joints, but we try to influence those joints so we can have an impact on the nervous system. So I have this neat little light bulb here today, and this is kind of what we sometimes show people to give them an idea that when their body is operating in pain, sometimes that nerve is irritated and there's a lot of signal traveling through that nerve. And when we do an adjustment, we can calm it down to something that's more close to normal in terms of their physiology. Sometimes a problem has been there long enough or gets bad enough that they actually end up with nerve irritation that calms that nerve down too much. So they notice a weakness or abnormal sensation. So it can be too much or it can be too little. And our goal is to just make that just right. So sometimes we turn that power on, eh, we turn it on more, eh, or we turn it on less, but we want to turn it on just right. And the chiropractic adjustment actually has that impact on the nervous system. So it's kind of interesting. So today, if you're out there doing things and you're noticing that maybe your power's a little bit too much or too little and you need to get it corrected, think about getting a chiropractic adjustment. It might be just the thing that you need to help create those positive experiences in your life every single day.
