Wobble Chair Excercises

Dr. David Koivuranta demonstrates wobble chair exercises, a seat that rotates 360 degrees on a pinpoint fulcrum. Six movements—side-to-side, forward-back, diagonals, and circles—pump spinal discs, restore nerve communication, and circulate cerebrospinal fluid. Twenty reps of each takes 2-3 minutes; most people see improved coordination and stability within 45-60 days.

Hello everybody, it's Dr. Dave. I'm on the wobble chair. I'm going to give you guys a confirmation reminder, or if it's the first time, I'm going to teach you how to do some wobbling. The wobble chair is an incredibly neat invention. It actually sits on a pinpoint fulcrum. It's a metal-honed point, almost like a pin but thicker, so that when you're sitting on here, it can fully go 360 degrees depending on which way we lean. Now the value of this is several fold, but there's 3 important points. The first thing that it's going to do is it's going to help pump the discs, the spaces, the joints in between the bones in your spine. And that pumping is very similar to the non-surgical spinal decompression in that it can restore height in the disc. It pushes out waste, sucks in nutrients, and those tissues can actually heal or rebuild. Now the second thing it's going to do is going to reconnect your brain to your body. When you do these movements, you kind of have to think about it, and that restores some communication and connection or control to your body from your brain, and that's awesome because your nervous system loves that stimulation. The third thing that it does, among other things, is that it also pumps the fluid that bathes your spinal cord from your tailbone to your brain, the cerebral spinal fluid, the CSF, and that helps nourish your nervous system. So it's always working, this nervous system, sending signals, but it also needs to be nourished to do that really well, and the wobble chair helps you do that. So there's 6 movements on the wobble chair. When you're on the wobble chair, you want to keep this curve in your lower back. You want to be loose, but you do want to be tall, just like you would have checked in the 3-way mirror before getting on the chair. And then while you're on the chair, you're going to hold it. You don't want it to move too much. You want to stay in control, but you want to stay loose. And what you're going to do is go side to side. That's the first movement. Just let your bum drop from side to side as far as you comfortably can. The speed is up to you. You just got to find a rhythm that's good. Pump it. Forward and back, same thing. Rocking motion, just like a kid when you were young, sliding across the floor. Same kind of motion. And then instead of straight forward and back, you're gonna shoot from the hip. So you're gonna stay looking forward, but the motion is gonna go on a diagonal towards one knee and then away from that knee. And then the other side. Same kind of like two halves of a letter X, two diagonals. The last movements are circles. You're gonna go all the way around one way like you're tracing the rim of a glass or you're using a hula hoop. And then you're gonna go the other way. Just like that. Hula hoop, the rim of the glass. Now in the clinic, it's up to you. We recommend doing about 20 of each as you count. 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, up to 20. 2 or 3 minutes. It doesn't take long, but it provides a lot of benefit. In the first 45 to 60 days that someone uses the wobble chair, they notice an incredible amount of improvement in their coordination and how loose their body feels, but at the same time, the stability is coming back too. Because it's all about bringing your nervous system back to life. So that's the wobble chair. Every time you get in for an adjustment, make sure you get on, you do it properly. If it's not quite clear, ask us, we'll come help you. I'll catch you guys next time.
