Counting the Cost to Eradicate Black Mold: What You Need to Know!

Dr. Diane Mueller explains why black mold remediation costs thousands upfront but saves money long-term. Mold exposure can trigger fibromyalgia, brain fog, migraines, and dementia. Hire inspectors who test air, dust, behind walls, and HVAC systems, not just basic air sampling.

Hey, in this video we're going to talk about the cost to kill black mold. I'm Dr. Diane Mueller, I'm a Lyme and mold health expert. And one of the biggest problems with killing black mold in the house is it is expensive. But one of the big costs to not killing black mold in the house is it is connected with so many disease processes. It is connected with fibromyalgia, it's connected with brain fog, with headaches, with migraines, with neurological dysfunction of all types, including dementia and cognitive decline. So killing black mold correctly is unfortunately quite costly. But making the decision not to kill it is oftentimes from a health perspective as well as a financial perspective for your health, even more costly. I have one client, for example, that has a huge amount of black mold in her house. She also has ALS and she has a live in nurse. And it's costing the family a fortune that if the black mold was caught and remediated correctly years ago, while it would have cost a decent amount of money, it would have actually saved them so much money long term if they could have prevented the ALS from happening, which potentially could be because there is, there are links in research between black mold and these neurological conditions like als. So we want to make sure we're taking that very seriously. Because what, you're going to spend money now to do it correctly could save a lot of time and a lot of pain in the future. I get really fired up about this and I'm really passionate about this topic because I see so many times people not wanting to spend the money because it is, it does tend to be expensive to do it correctly. And I see so many people not want to spend the money, but it will cost you one way or the other. And if you don't do it, oftentimes it costs so much more. And I'm trying to educate people because I want to prevent this from happening because it makes me so sad and it breaks my heart. So the biggest problem, I would definitely encourage you to watch some of my other videos on here, like the one on how to kill black mold, because there's a lot of problems doing it diy and most people wind up thinking they're doing it, you know, doing something good, they're doing it cheap, and they're making the progress problem substantially worse. So I cannot even begin to emphasize how big of a deal it is to do this correctly and make sure you get a really good inspector. I like the crew over at We Inspect. There are some good inspectors out there. But just because an inspector says they're certified does not actually mean they know what they're doing as far as really identifying the mold. So you want to ask more questions. When you're really figuring out a good mold inspector, how are they taking samples? If they say they're just doing air samples and comparing air indoor to outdoor and checking humidity, do not use them. The good inspectors that are really designed to find where the problem is, to find all of the problems are going to do air samples, they're going to do dust samples because a lot of molds are heavy, they fall out of the air. They're going to do things like drill tiny holes in the drywall and take a, put a vacuum and set suck out the air behind the drywall to see if there's a problem there. Right. So really, really thorough. They're going to check your H Vacs, they're going to check all of these different areas thoroughly. So you want to make sure that you are spending the money. If you're spending the money, you're really working with somebody quality. So that's why I'm giving you some insight as far as how to vet these people. Or you could use my buddies over at We Inspect, they do a really, really great job over there. But it's, it is, I mean, from a standpoint of cost, it's difficult to say. Sometimes it can be a thousand dollar job, sometimes it can be tens of thousands. Right. So it really depends upon how bad it is. And you know, I can give you another example. I had a client who we knew there was mold there because of her symptoms and because we kept testing her body, and her body, no matter what we did, just continued to have mold inside of it. So we knew it was in her home. She had multiple inspectors come and nobody could find it. And she finally called the people that were higher quality and they did do samples and found it behind her drywall. Now, despite there being no visible mold, no smells of mold, when the remediators came in, there was one room in particular that it was ceiling to floor covered across an entire wall. Right. And it was like the way it was described to me, it was almost like just sheets of this mold. So that was not something that multiple inspectors found. It was also not something that was visible via a site or you couldn't smell it. Right. So it was going undetected because of all of those things. So you really want to take the time and the effort to work with somebody good and you're spending the money, spend the money to do it right. Because that will save you time, it'll save you money in the long run. And really it could save your life.
